Reminder: I-79 Ramps Project Causing Traffic Restrictions

PennDOT is adding new on and off ramps between the highway and Route 228.

Traffic alert! The construction taking place to link new on and off ramps between I-79 and Route 228 in Cranberry will continue to affect motorists this week. Monday, May 6 through Thursday, May 9, nighttime single lane restrictions will be in place on Freedom Road to relocate underground utility lines. Work will take place between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. each day.  In the hopes of alleviating traffic in the area, PennDOT is adding new northbound and southbound on-ramps leading from Route 228 to Interstate 79. The $14.78 project eliminates two turning movements from Route 228 to I-79, improving access for motorists. Traffic Squeeze: Route 228, I-79 Ramps Project to Affect Motorists

There will be lane closures in place throughout the weekend and next week.

If you've driven down Route 228 in Cranberry lately, you’ve surely noticed the bulldozers moving dirt around near the highway. Now, the construction taking place to link new on and off ramps between I-79 and Route 228 is expected to affect motorists. The PennDOT work begins at 9 p.m. Friday, May 3 and will continue throughout Saturday, May 4.  To accommodate the construction, which involves removing the roadway’s concrete medians, the passing lanes on Route 228 will be closed in both directions.  The lanes on Route 19 and Freedom Road, which feed those closed lanes, will be closed while work is underway.  More night work also is on deck for next week. Richland Receives $32,000 Grant for Red Light Safety Improvements

The township's project was chosen by an eight-member committee from more than 265 submitted applications.

Richland Township has been awarded grant funding through the state's automated red light enforcement program, according to PennDOT. PennDOT said Richland will receive $32,000 to upgrade several traffic signals to LED. An eight-member committee selected projects that would improve safety, enhance mobility or reduce congestion. A total of $420,838 in "Automated Red Light Enforcement" funding will be distributed in Allegheny County and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission in PennDOT's District 11.  The other four Allegheny County projects awarded in District 11 include: $53,200 to Glassport; $117,338 to McKees Rocks; $45,800 to Millvale and $172,500 to the SPC, which includes District 11, to assist municipalities in the region with …

Pipe Cleaning and Shoulder Improvements in Pine, Richland Area This Week

Here's a look at some local roadwork occurring in the area.

PennDOT crews will be performing shoulder improvements, and pipe and inlet cleaning in the Pine and Richland areas this week. Work will occur Monday, March 25 through Friday, March 29, weather permitting. Here's a look at where crews will be working: Litter and debris removal and pothole patching will occur in various areas as needed. Motorists are advised to use caution, slow down and anticipate possible delays when traveling through the area.

Traffic Alert! Stoppages Coming to I-79

PennDOT announces overhead utility work that will involve traffic stops in both directions.

Motorists traveling Interstate 79 through Franklin Park over the weekend should be prepared to stop on Sunday if necessary.  PennDOT has announced that traffic in both directions on I-79 will be stopped intermittently on Sunday morning, March 24, while crews perform overhead utility work. The brief stoppages of 15 minutes or less will occur between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. Sunday in the area just south of the Route 910/Wexford Bayne Road (Exit 73) interchange. PennDOT is not involved in the work. Crews under contract with Consolidated Communications, Inc. will be performing the cable work across I-79. Additional slow traffic may also occur on I-79.
