The third annual Taste of Pine enables you to taste a bit of this and sip a bit of that all in one place—Pine Community Center—from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27. "It's a fun evening to try different restaurants in the township. Each (one) is bringing its specialities," said John Gill, chairman of Friends of Pine Community Parks. Bites Nearby: The Happy Hour Extravaganza - Part Two!

Hey, it beats joining a bowling league.

Writer Kelly Burgess took readers on a Happy Hour Tour last week. Here is the second part of that adventure. Day Three: Cranberry/Mars and cultural confusion It was day three of our Happy Hour Extravaganza! I was dropping off some marching band-related paperwork to a fellow volunteer and I told her about my happy hour adventures. "That is so cool," she said. "My husband and I have been looking for different things to do now that the kids are older, so we joined a bowling league. Happy hours sound like much more fun!" And it was, but a little hard to do this every night, four nights in a row, for those of us who have passed the happy-hour-quick-recovery age by a couple of decades. But here we were at happy hour No. 5… …Domenico's, which has…

News Nearby: LoyalTree App Creates Deals, Supports Local Business

Wexford resident comes up with a new app for iPhone and Android gives deals to local businesses, including Square Cafe and Crazy Mocha.

Brock Bergman is helping customers across the Pittsburgh area lighten their key chains with a new smart phone app that holds discounts and rewards from local businesses in one centralized place. “Anytime anyone would offer me to enroll in their programs, I would just say, 'No, I am fine.' I just want to get in, get my purchases and get out,” Bergman said. “What really started as a way for people to aggregate their current loyalty programs and put them on their phone has evolved into what we consider to be called a loyalty network.” A business based in the Strip District, LoyalTree is a new concept that already has Square Cafe in Regent Square, Crazy Mocha coffee shops, NOLA on the Square restaurant in Market Square, North Park Lounge and …

Pittsburgh Steelers Beat New York Jets 24-19

It was a chilling 15 degrees as the Steelers took to Heinz Field for the playoff championship Sunday night, but inside Atria’s in Wexford the warmth exuded from a crowd of Steelers fans who pulled up chairs next to the big-screen televisions to watch, wait and eventually see their team win and move on to the Super Bowl. Atria’s did not disappoint those who gathered there, with black and gold beads decorating the tables, happy-hour drink prices, and a complimentary half-time feast of pierogies, barbecue sandwiches, wings and kielbasa with sauerkraut. Before the game began, predictions flew as fans weighed in with their final score for the game. One fan, Judith Gray, predicted a final score of 24-17 and wouldn’t even entertain the thought …
