Nearby: Juniper Grill on the Way, Noodles & Company, Men’s Wearhouse Opening Soon

An upscale eatery specializing in southwest cuisine, Juniper Grill is the latest business coming to the Route 228 retail center.

The parking lot at the new Cranberry Crossroads shopping center is about to get a whole lot busier. Already home to the new two-story Dick’s Sporting Goods, which opened in October, the retail center on Route 228 has several more businesses on the verge of opening, including Noodles & Company, Men’s Wearhouse and Verizon. A "fast casual" chain specializing in noodle dishes from Thailand to Italy, Noodles & Company is expected to open in the first or second week of December, according to ECHO Realty, the development company behind Cranberry Crossroads. The restaurant, which already has locations in Market Square in Pittsburgh and Forbes Avenue in Oakland, also serves sandwiches, soups and salads. Men’s Wearhouse, a chain retailer selling …

Labor Day's Significance Remains Strong for Some Workers, Less So for Others

Amid parades and end-of-summer picnics, how much does the holiday resonate today in Western Pennsylvania?

Growing up in the North Hills in the 1970s, Margaret Ward Robbibaro loved Labor Day. Although she admits she didn’t think much about the traditional meaning of the holiday, she knew what it meant to her. “Labor Day cushioned the dread of going back to school,” said Robbibaro, 46, of Ohio Township. “You have those few days of having to be back in school, and then Labor Day would come. It was a summer vacation encore.” The holiday began in 1892 with a parade of carpenters in New York City.
