Before You Bite Into That Valentine Chocolate, Check Your 'Numbers'

This Feb. 13 presentation looks at your personal health numbers. Free health screenings will be offered to check cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure levels.

Just in time for a chocolate-laden Valentine’s Day comes a presentation that might make you think twice before you take a bite of that sinfully delicious fruit of the cacao tree. “Take Control of Your Health—Know Your Numbers” will be presented at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, in Hilltop Hall at The Village at St. Barnabas, 5850 Meridian Road, Gibsonia. Representatives from the Center for Pharmacy Services of Duquesne University will discuss the importance of knowing your personal health numbers of total cholesterol, triglycerides, body mass index, good cholesterol, bad cholesterol, and blood sugar. Satisfy your sweet tooth in Sewickley this Valentine's Day. Tickets are being sold now for the inaugural Sewickley Chocolate Walk, which takes place on Wednesday, Feb. 13.   Alex DeLoia of Village Green Partners said the Chocolate Walk runs from 5 to 7 p.m. as part of continuing efforts to promote later shopping hours on Wednesdays in Sewickley. "Chocolate Walk will be a fun, family-friendly event the evening before Valentine's Day, where people can sample all kinds of unique chocolates while visiting the businesses in the Village," she said. Tickets on Sale for Daddy-and-Daughter Valentine's Dance

Daddy Alert. If you want to take your little girl (ages 5 to 9) to a special Daddy-and-Daughter Valentine's Dance, then you need to get your tickets this week. Dinner and refreshments will be provided at the dance, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Pine Community Center. But the deadline to buy your tickets is Friday, Feb. 8. Performer Lee Alverson Pays Tribute to 'Phantom of the Opera' in Show at Kean Theatre

Performer Lee Alverson's powerful tribute to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera will be performed Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Kean Theatre. Preceding the "Broadway Phantasy" performance, the Kean offers a candlelit Valentine's Day dinner featuring a strolling violinist at the Mount Vernon Restaurant. The restaurant is in the same building as the Kean at 5847 Meridian Road in Gibsonia (Richland Township). Tickets for the 8 p.m. show range in price from $32 to $52. The 6:30 p.m. pre-show Valentine's Day dinner costs an additional $28. The dinner also includes a gift bag for each couple and a special appearance by the Phantom. Valentine's Day Celebrated at St. Barnabas

Luncheon celebrates every valentine.

Not everyone has that special someone with whom to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Knowing that, the folks at St. Barnabas Health Care Systems decided to ask the residents at the Village at St. Barnabas to be their valentines at a special Valentine’s Day celebration luncheon. “It isn’t always easy to celebrate Valentine’s Day if you have lost your loved one or don’t have (a valentine). We wanted all of our residents to have the opportunity to feel special,” said Douglas Day, president of St. Barnabas Communities. Love Grows on Valentine's Day

Richland couple flourishes together in love and business.

Valentine's Day is a big day for Jennifer Nicotero and Robert Klinefelter for more than just the usual reasons. Klinefelter owns and manages KLS Landscaping and Supply, and last Valentine's Day he invited Nicotero to join him in the business with something they could do year-round.  They both had an interest in flowers, so they decided to open a retail floral shop at 5960 William Flynn Highway in Richland Township. Nicotero says it was a logical move. "I grew up in a family that owned a garden center and flower shop," says Nicotero. "Design work is my trade."
