Northern Regional Police Department provided the following information.
An 18-year-old Valencia woman hit a boulder about 3 a.m. Jan. 18 when she lost control of her Chevrolet Cobalt as she traveled on snow-covered Heckert Road in Richland Township, according to Northern Regional Police Department. Akron Vantine and her three passengers were not injured in the accident that occurred near the Bakerstown Road intersection, police said. Interstate 79 was covered in snow, despite the snow plows' efforts to keep it clear.
Accidents were commonplace on Interstate 79 Wednesday as a winter storm covered the area in snow and sleet. These photos were taken of the southbound lanes of I-79 near mile marker 62, about 2 miles north of the Route 60 exit. The photographer is Christoper Cook, son of Patch Editor Richard Cook. Northern Regional Police Department provided the following information.
Two people were injured Oct. 15 when a Dodge Caravan ran a red light and collided with a Saturn on Route 8 in Richland Township, according to a Northern Regional Police Department report. Richland EMS transported the Saturn driver and passenger—Paul Lyons, 37, and Logan Lyons, 6, of Valencia—to Allegheny General Hospital after the 7:30 a.m. accident, police said. The police report states the Caravan, driven by 71-year-old George Durrant, of Pittsburgh, ran a red light as the Saturn was turning left onto Route 8 from Sandy Hill Road. No one was injured when a Honda Accord went over an embankment on Warrendale Road near Greenwood Drive in Pine about 12:30 p.m. Sept. 30, police report. Levi Zvirman, 18, of Wexford, told police his brakes failed when he tried to stop on westbound Warrendale, according to a Northern Regional Police report. Zvirman said he steered the car to the right to avoid hitting a stopped vehicle in front of him and went over the embankment into the brush, police said. Pickup, Subaru Collide on Route 8 in Front of North Park Clubhouse A Dodge Dakota pickup collided with a Subaru Impreza that was pulling out of Ranalli Drive onto Route 8 in Richland Township on Saturday afternoon, police said. The Subaru driver, 29-year-old David Golightly, of Allison Park, told police a vehicle stopped on southbound Route 8 to make a left onto Ranalli Drive and waved him out to make a left onto Route 8 southbound, according to the police report. A northbound vehicle on Route 8 also stopped in the curb lane and waved him out, police said. Richland EMS transported a motorcyclist to Allegheny General Hospital Sept. 12 after his Harley-Davidson ran into the back of an SUV stopped on Route 910 in Richland Township, police said. Michael Lang, 58, of Gibsonia, struck the pavement with the left side of his motorcycle, which flipped him and the cycle onto its right side, according to a Northern Regional police report. Mary Auth, 63, of Glenshaw, had stopped her 2011 Toyota RAV 4 on Route 910 for a vehicle making a left turn onto Grubbs Road, police said. A 2001 GMC Savana making a left turn onto Pearce Mill Road in Pine Township collided with a Suzuki Reno about 10:25 a.m. Aug. 22 , according to a Northern Regional Police Department report. Troy Trudeau, 23, of Pittsburgh, told police he pulled onto Pearce Mill after stopping at the stop sign on eastbound Graham Road, the report states. Trudeau did not see the Suzuki coming down Pearce Mill until after he started making the left turn, according to the report. A BMW struck a guide rail on Warrendale Road in Pine township about 10:25 p.m. Friday when the driver reached into the back seat for something, according to a Northern Regional Police Department report. Brian J. Edwards, 31, of Allison Park was driving a 2006 BMW 530 just west of Treesdale Drive when the accident occurred, police said. “Brian indicated that he was reaching for something in the rear seating area of the vehicle, when he veered to the right of the roadway, striking the guide rail. Driver Hits Guide Rail, Sign, Car at St. Richard Church Two good Samaritans helped a 76-year-old woman after she drove erratically up the driveway of St. Richard's Church, crossed the parking lot, hit a parked car and a handicapped parking sign, according to a Northern Regional Police Department report. Daniel Brudy and Susan Martinez, both of Gibsonia, told police it looked as if a 2011 Cadillac DTS hit a guide rail as it pulled into the church's driveway off Dickey Road in Richland Township about 3 p.m. Aug. 12, the report states.
