Officers pose as customers interested in buying stolen construction tools in order to arrest man who later admitted to burglaries in Cranberry, McCandless, Hampton and Pittsburgh.
Northern Regional police are proving you can find just about anything on Craigslist—even burglary suspects. Chief T. Robert Amman said officers from the department used the classified advertisement website to track down a Pittsburgh man suspected of stealing power tools from businesses across the North Hills. “It was good work done by them,” Amman said. “They were checking Craigslist and they found some matches on the tools taken.” Jeremy Lee Caskey, 31, of McKees Rocks, is charged with theft, receiving stolen property, burglary and criminal mischief in the incidents. Investigators say Robert Osselborn charged former Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Tom Tumulty for a trip to Jackson Hole, WY, that never materialized. Osselborn also is charged in Pine and Marshall cases.
A Butler County man faces charges in three counties for bilking thousands of dollars from multiple victims, including a former NFL player now living in Adams Township. Authorities said Robert Osselborn—who lists addresses in Mars, Butler and New Castle, Lawrence County—posed as a representative of a television show about hunting to entice former Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Tom Tumulty to give him money. In exchange, Osselborn promised Tumulty a spot in a group trip to Jackson Hole, WY, and said the trip could be recorded and aired on the show, according to investigators.. “He was very legitimate and very detailed about the hunting story,” Tumulty said Tuesday. A Mars man charged with stealing jewelry from a Pine Township home is in the Butler County Prison where he faces 73 other charges filed by police in Zelienople and Mars. Matthew Lohr, 29, is charged with felony counts of burglary, theft and receiving stolen property in the Pine Township incident, according to Northern Regional Police Chief T. Robert Amann. Zelienople Police also charged Lohr with 58 felony counts of burglary, trespassing and receiving stolen property, according to court documents. Mars Police charged Lohr with three felony drug charges, 11 misdemeanor drug-related charges and one count of reckless endangerment. Cranberry resident David Chisholm will stand trial after being charged with burglarizing a secluded home off Dutlilh Road over the summer. The 27-year-old, whose street address was not listed in court documents, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Friday before Magisterial District Judge David Kovach in Cranberry. He is charged with burglary, two counts of theft, two counts of receiving stolen property, making false reports to police and loitering and prowling at night in the incident. Chisholm also faces charges in Allegheny and Butler counties that include burglary and theft, according to court records. Preliminary hearing postponed for a separate case involving theft at Kohl's.
A Tarentum woman was accused of stealing $253.50 worth of merchandise April 19 from Kohl’s in Richland Township, police said. Patricia Ann Renter, 43, “was observed taking merchandise from the store displays, entering (a) fitting room and coming out without some of the items," according to a report from Northern Regional Police Department. The store's loss prevention staff told police Renter selected four fashion rings before entering a fitting room, the report said. After Renter left the fitting room, a store employee found three black boxes for the fashion rings -- two were empty and a third contained a broken ring, police said. A 21-year-old Bakerstown man turned himself in to Northern Regional Police Department early Tuesday after his mother reported he stole checks from her, police said. Cody Kenneth Thomas also was wanted for bench warrants issued in Allegheny and Butler counties for failing to appear in court, police said. He was taken to Allegheny County Jail. Initally, Gwendolyn Thomas, Cody’s mother, called police around 5 p.m. to report her son had stolen checks when he was at her house earlier in the day, police said. PNC Bank in McIntyre Square called Mrs. Thomas to tell her Cody was trying to cash one of her checks for $200, according to the police report. Jeannette resident is also accused in church burglary cases in Westmoreland County.
A Jeannette man was ordered Friday to stand trial on charges of stealing $1,600 in gift cards from Target. The preliminary hearing for Joshua Matthew Garbowsky was waived Friday in magisterial district court. That sends the case to the Allegheny Court of Common Pleas. Garbowsky, who turned 19 on Sunday, was employed at the Target in Richland Township in late February when the thefts took place, according to a Northern Regional Police report. He is in Westmoreland County Prison facing charges of burglarizing churches in that community and charges of driving under the influence of alcohol. Garbowsky's week was spent in legal procedures.
