In anticipation of the opening night for 'Big,' this year's high school musical, Patch takes a look back at all the hard work and preparation that went into 2012's production.

Things are getting Big this weekend. The tale of a 13-year-old boy who made that wish is the story that will be performed this weekend in Pine-Richland High School's annual musical. The shows take place 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, March 8-9 and 15-16 at the high school's auditorium, 700 Warrendale Road, Gibsonia. There also is a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16. In the meantime, check out this YouTube video from Pine-Richland High School's 2012 production of The Wedding Singer. PR Musical, 'The Wedding Singer,' Opens Thursday

Tickets are available for shows and the "wedding reception."

Sometimes the one you want is right in front of your eyes. In The Wedding Singer, Pine-Richland High School's 2012 spring musical, Holly is a party girl who isn't particularly looking for Mr. Right,  but she's dated a lot of Mr. Wrongs. Chief among them is Sammy, bass player in a wedding band. His last gift to her was a T-shirt that read, "I'm with Stupid."  As Holly says, "That's when I knew I was with stupid!" The Wedding Singer will premiere at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Pine-Richland Middle School. (The venue was moved to the middle school this year because of construction at the high school.) There also will be 7:30 p.m. shows on Friday and Saturday and March 22-24.  For a sneak preview, click on the video above to see Raychel Shipley as …

Dancers Dazzle in PR Musical 'The Wedding Singer'

The musical opens Thursday night, with performances through Saturday, March 17, and March 22-24.

Pine-Richland High School's musicals are famous for the professional quality of the dance numbers. Last year was the exception, as the somber theme of Les Miserables did not lend itself to the sort of energetic numbers the PR dancers do so well. This year, they're back and they're better than ever. The Wedding Singer, opening on Thursday in the Pine-Richland Middle School, is filled with big numbers that call for dancers with a good deal of talent.  Dance team captains Rachel Baur, Alaina Zappas and Scott Hilger lead a dance line that does everything from 1980s disco to the precision dancing that suggests conformity and conservatism in the opening number of Act Two: It's All About the Green, a nod to the "greed is good" mantra of Wall …

Pine-Richland's Spring Musical Stars a Guy Dumped at the Altar

'The Wedding Singer' will be performed March 15-17 at Pine-Richland Middle School.

Everyone loves a wedding, with the possible exception of those who are dumped at the altar. In The Wedding Singer, Pine-Richland High School's 2012 spring musical, wedding singer Robbie Hart is left at the altar by his fiancee, Linda. Depressed and broken-hearted, Robbie feels he can no longer sing at weddings, but his best friend, Sammy, talks him into trying. The result is a hilarious disaster in which he "bites the best man and the bride has to be sedated." The show runs March 15-17 and 22-24 at 7:30 p.m. at Pine-Richland Middle School. There still are great seats available for both Thursday shows, but tickets are selling quickly for the other shows.  Tickets are on sale Monday and Tuesday from 1 p.m  to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m  to 8 p.m. at …

Pine-Richland's Spring Musical a Big Deal on a Small Stage

'The Wedding Singer' faces challenges at the Pine-Richland Middle School auditorium.

Pine-Richland School District is known for its large spring musical productions, but this year organizers had to think big in a much smaller space. Due to construction issues, the musical was moved from Pine-Richland High School—with its big stage, 1,500 seats, built-in lighting, orchestra pit and multi-level curtaining—to the much smaller middle school stage. Pine-Richland Middle School seats 500, although some of those seats have been lost to scaffolding, and most of the technology that is built-in at the high school has had to be bought, moved or built at the middle school. Parents and students have worked long hours to hang lights, wire the auditorium for sound, build scaffolding to hold the equipment, build sets and hang special …

You're right, Megan. The cast traveled to Eden Hall to perform selections from the play. The video above is from that performance. The full musical—with costumes, orchestra, etc.—was performed at the middle school. ccm   more ›

Comedy set in the 1980s celebrates big hair and good times.

They’re baaaaack! The '80s, that is, in Pine-Richland High School’s 2012 spring musical, The Wedding Singer. It’s a wild and crazy romp through the era of big hair, big phones and big greed. As the article in the PG stated, this play has been edited for mature content. It is entirely suitable for all ages and all ages have been attending and enjoying it very much. There is one very mild, very funny, discussion of the proper type of wedding kiss, but it is in no way offensive. In addition, the musical program at PRHS is almost entirely self-supporting and does not affect your tax bill…   more ›
