Several major retailers are planning to open their doors as early as 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Will you be waiting in line?
With each passing year, it seems Black Friday begins earlier and earlier—6 a.m., then 5 a.m., then 4 a.m. This year, Black Friday is actually starting on Thanksgiving Thursday. Walmart has announced it will open its doors at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, and offer holiday doorbusters while supplies last. These include deals on TVs, iPads, an electric scooter for $79 and a steam mop for $39. Not to be outdone, Target and Best Buy are also planning all-out holiday shopping assaults. Target's deals begin at 9 p.m. According to an ad leaked online, its best deals will be for TVs, a Nook tablet, a Nikon camera and an Xbox 360 Kinect bundle. At Best Buy, doors open at midnight. Black Friday is oozing off the calendar block into Family Thursday. Stores are hoping to cash in on customer eagerness by opening their doors on Thanksgiving Day. What do you think about that?
If you find yourself in need of some bedazzled jeans on Thanksgiving Day and just can't wait until the weekend, you're in luck this year. Michaels craft stores will be open starting at 4 p.m. that day, and Gap stores will be open until 8. Some people will just be sitting down to their feast around that time, but stores are betting that many shoppers will have eaten their meal and cleared away the dishes by then, and will be happy for a reason to get out of the house. For the stores to be open, though, someone has to drive in to work that day. Westmoreland man faces multiple charges in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties.
A 19-year-old man charged with stealing from Walmart, Target and Kohl's in Richland Township was ordered Friday to pay restitution to Walmart and court fines for two February thefts. Joshua Matthew Garbowsky -- whose addresses are listed in court documents as Gibsonia, Jeannette and Irwin -- pleaded guilty to summary offenses and was ordered to pay $144 to Walmart plus $490 in fines by Magisterial District Judge Regis Welsh Jr. Garbowsky faces a long list of charges in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties in connection with thefts and church break-ins, according to court documents. A Jeannette man was ordered Friday to stand trial on charges of stealing $1,600 in gift cards from Target. The preliminary hearing for Joshua Matthew Garbowsky was waived Friday in magisterial district court. That sends the case to the Allegheny Court of Common Pleas. Garbowsky, who turned 19 on Sunday, was employed at the Target in Richland Township in late February when the thefts took place, according to a Northern Regional Police report. He is in Westmoreland County Prison facing charges of burglarizing churches in that community and charges of driving under the influence of alcohol. Garbowsky's week was spent in legal procedures. An 18-year-old man arrested in several church burglary cases in Penn Township has been charged with stealing Target gift cards while he was an employee at the Richland Township store, police said. Joshua Matthew Garbowsky, 18, of Jeannette was charged March 8 with stealing gift cards and placing $1,600 in cash on them while he worked at the Richland Township store, according to a police report from Northern Regional Police Department. The 2010 Penn-Trafford graduate also is charged in Westmoreland County with burglarizing churches in Penn Township.
