Kean Quest Semi-Finalists Include Singers From Gibsonia, Valencia

Thirteen singers—including youths from Gibsonia and Valencia—are moving on to the next level in the 2013 Kean Quest Talent Search. Hayden Unitas, of Gibsonia, and Sabrina Knox, of Valencia, are among 24 acts that performed Sunday in the first round of the fundraising talent competition at the Kean Theatre in Richland Township. Breea Bonnett, 11, Natrona Heights, won the Audience Choice Award during her performance at Kean Quest, formerly Kean Idol. Based on scores from a panel of judges, these singers will move onto semi-final competition on Sunday, March 17. Neil Diamond Tribute Opens Kean Theatre’s 2013 Season

Chris Denem recreates the legendary superstar’s classic and traditional hits.

The classic hits of legendary superstar Neil Diamond will be performed Saturday during a tribute performance by Chris Denem at the Kean Theatre. “Solitary Man”, “Holly Holy” and “America” are on tap for the 8 p.m. show at the theater on the St. Barnabas campus in Richland Township. (Set your GPS for 5847 Meridian Road, Gibsonia.) Ticket prices range from $18 to $38. The Mount Vernon Restaurant offers attendees a pre-show dinner at 6:30 p.m. for $23 with the purchase of a show ticket. Gov. Corbett Presents Gift, Named Honorary Chair for Presents for Patients

Lois Siess, an 84-year-old great-grandmother who lives at The Arbors at St. Barnabas, received Hawaiian-themed gift.

With a blue lei around his neck, Gov. Tom Corbett presented the final gift of the Presents for Patients 2012 season Thursday at a Hawaiian-themed Christmas celebration at St. Barnabas' Valencia campus. Lois Siess, an 84-year-old great-grandmother who lives at The Arbors at St. Barnabas, received a picture book about Hawaii, suntan lotion, a beach towel and hat. The gift honored her fond memories of a trip to Hawaii with her late husband, Richard.  "Oh how nice," Siess exclaimed as she opened her present. "I'll have a lot of enjoyment going through this. ... St. Barnabas' Holiday Celebration Kicks Off Presents For Patients Campaign

Gifts sought for nursing home residents.

When St. Barnabas lit its 90-foot-high Christmas tree Thursday night, it also illuminated a need. The tree lighting was part of the Country Christmas celebration at the Richland campus that kicked off the 29th Presents For Patients® campaign. It brightens the holidays for long-term care residents by matching them with a visitor who personally delivers a gift.  Paul Cathmar of the Arbors at St. Barnabas received the first gift—a cowboy hat and country Christmas CDs—at Thursday night's festivities.  The goal of this year’s campaign is serve more than 30,700 patients at 353 facilities throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, West Virginia, Tennessee and South Carolina. Presents for Patients® celebrates 29th season with community night on St. Barnabas campus in Richland Township.

Looking for an old-fashioned holiday celebration with horse-drawn hayrides, hot cocoa by a bonfire, Christmas carols, a tree lighting and Santa? The public is invited to the free Country Christmas community night from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday that kicks off the 29th annual Presents for Patients® campaign at St. Barnabas' Gibsonia campus at 5827 Meridian Road in Richland Township. Zambelli fireworks will cap the night. St. Barnabas to Offer Free Thanksgiving Dinners

Reservations are appreciated but not necessary.

Continuing a tradition that began in 1900, St. Barnabas Charities will provide free holiday meals to community members alone or in need.  Free, traditional turkey dinners, complete with all the trimmings, will be served on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22, at the two nursing homes operated by St. Barnabas Health System.   Meals will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the dining room of St. Barnabas Nursing Home, 5827 Meridian Road, Gibsonia.  The dinners will also be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the dining room at Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas, 85 Charity Place, Valencia.
