Registration is now open for the annual St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K Run/Walk, which is celebrating 22 years this summer. The goal is for more than 1,000 runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes of all ages to participate in the event. With live entertainment, an awards ceremony hosted by celebrity emcees, nearly two dozen raffle prize-baskets and food and drinks for more than 1000 participants, the St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K Run/Walk is known as one of the best in the ‘burgh for its huge post-race party. The race takes place at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 at St. Barnabas Medical Center, located at 5830 Meridian Road in Richland Township. Registration is $16 by July 26 or $20 after July 26. Early registration guarantees a race t-shirt. …

Those in need can find a filling meal and warm company on Easter Sunday at St. Barnabas Health System. St. Barnabas will be serving free Easter dinners from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 31. The dinners will be served at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, 5827 Meridian Road, and Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas, 85 Charity Place in Valencia. The traditional Easter dinners with all the trimmings will be served sit-down style. Finalists were chosen following recent performances at Kean Theatre in Richland Township.
A Valencia singer is among the acts chosen to compete in the championship round of the Kean Quest Talent Search. Sabrina Knox, of Valencia, performed Sunday as a semi-finalist in the 2013 youth talent competition at the Kean Theatre in Richland Township. Knox's performed the Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo`ole arrangement of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" at Kean Quest, formerly Kean Idol. The finalist round will be held Friday, April 5, at the Kean Theatre. Vocal contestants ranging in age from 19 to 60 took to the Kean Theatre stage Friday night to vie for the coveted title as Kean Quest Talent Search Champion of the adult round in the competition held in Richland Township. Jason Albert of Butler and Johnny Richards of New Brighton were the Judges’ Choice and Audience Choice winners respectively in the 2013 Kean Quest Talent Search Adult Competition. Albert played guitar and sang “Dearly Loved” by Jimmy Needham while Richards also played guitar and performed “Fire and Rain” by James Taylor. The 20-year employee was nominated by her co-workers and selected from more than 620 employees for the honor, which is St. Barnabas’ equivalent of an Employee of the Year. Performer Lee Alverson's powerful tribute to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera will be performed Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Kean Theatre.
