Get Out: Fun Things to Do Around The Pine-Richland Area

We have the scoop on weekend events.

The weekend almost is here and Pine-Richland Patch has a few suggestions on how—and where—to spend your time. If you know of a great activity we missed, pleae add it to the comment section below. Pine-Richland students will perform the comedic Big this weekend at the high school's auditorium, 700 Warrendale Road, Gibsonia. The shows take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9. There also are performances 7:30 p.m. March 15-16 and a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16. Lent began Wednesday, and many will abstain from eating meat products on Fridays—or through the entire season, which ends March 30, the Saturday before Easter.  To help those home cooks—and encourage a sense of community in the effort—local churches are offering the traditional weekly fish fries. Below is a listing of where and when you can purchase dinners and sandwiches—whether you're celebrating Lent or just looking for a yummy meal.  St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 201 Church Road, Wexford. Favorite Fish Fry: St. Alphonsus Wins Honor by a Landslide

St. Alphonsus serves fish and shrimp every Friday during Lent.

We asked who has the best fish fry, and Pine-Richland Patch voters gave an overwhelming answer: St. Alphonsus. When voting ended Friday morning, 88 percent of voters had declared their love for the annual Lenten fish fry event held at St. Alphonsus School, which is next door to St Alphonsus Church in Wexford. I have to admit. I wasn't surprised. My husband and I dined there last week and found the food was delicious, and the service provided by volunteers was phenomenal. The price was good too. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the fundraiser that grew out of the Pine Township parish’s “Get It Done” campaign to pay off the school’s addition debt. St. Alphonsus Dishes Out Delicious Fried Fish for Fifth Year

Lenten Fish Fry grew out of the parish’s 'Get It Done' campaign to raise money to pay off the school’s addition debt.

St. Alphonsus Church and School is a destination point during Lent as hundreds of hungry customers flock to the popular Friday Fish Fry. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the fundraiser that grew out of the Pine Township parish’s “Get It Done” campaign to pay off the school’s addition debt. St. Alphonsus church and school are at 201 Church Road in Wexford.  It is the only parish in the northern suburbs to offer Ash Wednesday dinners and one of the few to serve on Good Friday. "Get It Done" board member Vince Morreale, who has a passion for cooking and serving large groups, proposed the fish fry. The Glenshaw chiropractor once considered a career in the culinary arts, according to his wife, Mary.    Soon parishioners Frank McSorley …
