Expect lane closures and restrictions.
Expect slow going on Route 8 this week as PennDOT installs road markers on the busy road from Route 910 to Saxonburg Boulevard. PennDOT announced the planned work when it released its weekly maintenance schedule for Monday through Friday, Dec. 17-21. All activities are weather permitting. Expect lane closures and restrictions in the work areas. PennDOT plans to install delineators, which are a series of retroreflective devices mounted on the road surface or at the side of the road to indicate the alignment of the road. The delineators make it easier for motorists to see road markings, especially at night or in bad weather. PennDOT bridge maintenance work will result in lane restrictions.
Traveling McKnight Road for work or holiday shopping? Beginning Monday, PennDOT contractors will be repairing joints on the bridge that carries McKnight Road over Ingomar Road in McCandless. Single-lane traffic will occur on McKnight in both directions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through Dec. 21 between Arcadia and Blazier drives. PennDOT advises motorists to use caution, slow down and anticipate changing traffic patterns, lane closures and possible delays when traveling through the area.
Look for lane closures on Route 910 between Route 8 in Richland Township and Oak Road in West Deer. PennDOT's weekly maintenance scheduled calls for patching work to be done on that stretch between Monday and Friday. All activities are weather permitting. PennDOT advises motorists to use caution, slow down and anticipate changing traffic patterns, lane closures and possible delays when traveling through the area. Motorists are urged to call 1-800 FIX ROAD to report roadway concerns on state routes and interstates. Litter and debris removal and pothole patching will occur in various areas as needed. Work to install a new drainage inlet and cross pipe on Peace Mill Road in Pine Township will begin on Tuesday, weather permitting, according to PennDOT. Single-lane alternating-use traffic will occur as needed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Nov. 23 in the work area between Route 910 (Wexford Road) and Brown Road. Motorists are advised to expect changing traffic patterns and possible delays. The work is included in a $5 million contract with Allison Park Contractors, Inc. of Allison Park for improvements on various roads in PennDOT District 11. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction.
Just when you thought you could breeze along Route 19 in the Wexford Flats area with no delays comes this news: Traffic will be down to one lane in each direction this weekend. Crews will apply the final riding surface on Route 19 (Perry Highway) in Pine Township on Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting, PennDOT District 11 announced. The traffic restrictions will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday and continue through late Sunday night between Brooktree Road and Manor Road. Motorists should be prepared for changing traffic patterns. Access will be provided for all businesses along Route 19 in the construction zone. Golden Triangle Construction Co. Inc. of Imperial, PA, is the prime contractor for the project. UPDATE FROM PENNDOT at 3 p.m. Friday: Work on the ramp connecting the Liberty Bridge (Route 3069) to northbound I-579 (Crosstown Boulevard) has been canceled this weekend. The ramp will remain open. PennDOT is working hard to finish up several key projects as the road construction season winds down. There are seven areas where it will be slow going this weekend. After years of traffic congestion—first from a too-narrow road and then from construction— Route 19 is close to completion.
UPDATE: The opening of all five lanes in the Wexford Flats area of Route 19 has been delayed ... but only by one day. PennDOT announced the delay because of expected cold temperatures tonight (Monday) that will not allow pavement markings to be placed. Here is the original story, with changed dates in bold face: Nearly two years after construction started on the Wexford Flats section of Route 19, the end is in sight.
