Winter Weather Advisory: Mix of Snow, Sleet, Freezing Rain Predicted for Morning Rush

The storm is expected to begin after midnight.

There could be very little rush to the Monday-morning rush hour. The National Weather service in Pittsburgh has issued a winter-weather advisory from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday for most of Western Pennsylvania, including Pine and Richland Townships. A mixture of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected overnight into Monday morning. Because of very cold ground and snow pack, roads and sidewalks are expected to be icy. Updated Winter Weather Advisory: 1-3 Inches of Snow Possible in Pine-Richland

The National Weather Service says the most intense snow will fall Friday afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service in Moon has issued a winter-weather advisory for most of Western Pennsylvania, including Allegheny County, from 10 a.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday. Forecasters say 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible. The snow is expected to begin mid Friday morning and will end in the evening. Here is a more detailed look at the forecast. Richland Township Looking at No Tax Increase for 2013

The Board of Supervisors will vote on its $12 million budget on Dec. 19.

Richland Township taxpayers can heave a sigh of relief. The Board of Supervisors is looking at no tax increase in the township's $12 million budget for 2013. The current rate is 2.75 mills per thousand dollars assessed value. The supervisors will vote Dec. 19 to adopt a final budget and tax rate, but Township Manager Dean Bastianini explained that the millage rate will go down once Allegheny County sends final reassessment numbers to the township. In a cart-before-the-horse scenario, the township is required to adopt a budget and set a tax rate by Dec. 31. "We can adjust the budget after Jan. 1," Bastianini said at the supervisors' meeting Wednesday. "Our drop-dead date is when tax bills go out April 1." By law, the township cannot make a …

Teen Charged With Two Felonies in Richland Home-Invasion Burglary

Northern Regional police arrested Leo Nealon and a 17-year-old on Monday.

A Middlesex Township teen charged in a Richland Township home-invasion burglary was arraigned Tuesday morning and charged with two felonies. Leo James Nealon, who turned 18 on Sept. 12, was charged with a felony count of burglary and a felony count of conspiracy—burglary, as well as a misdemeanor count of possessing instruments of crime—criminal instruments. A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 26 before Magisterial District Judge Suzanne Blaschak. Northern Regional Police arrested Nealon about 7:15 p.m. Monday at his Middlesex Township (Valencia) home, Chief T. UPDATE: Police Arrest Second Suspect in Home-Invasion Burglary in Richland

Latest arrest comes hours after Northern Regional Police officers arrest a 17-year-old at a home on Sandy Hill Road.

UPDATE: Northern Regional Police arrested a second suspect about 7:15 p.m. Monday in a home-invasion burglary in Richland Township. Leo Nealon, 18, turned himself in at his Middlesex Township home after police contacted and spoke with him by cell phone, Northern Regional Police Chief T. Robert Amann said.  He is charged with burglary, Amann said. Police arrested a 17-year-old earlier Monday afternoon at a home on Sandy Hill Road in northeastern Richland Township. Northern Regional police were called to the home about 3:45 p.m. by a 17-year-old resident who was home alone when he heard someone trying to break into the home, Amann said. Jackie Evancho's New TV Special to Air on WQED in August

Jackie Evancho’s second television special—Jackie Evancho: Music of the Movies—will be broadcast Aug. 12 on WQED.

  A new Jackie Evancho singing special, Jackie Evancho: Music of the Movies, a follow-up to her popular debut special Great Performances Dream With Me in Concert, will be broadcast on WQED Pittsburgh on August 12.  The time has not yet been determined, according to WQED.  Viewers in other cities should check their local PBS schedule to see when it will be aired in their area. Jackie to Sing in Philadelphia Next Month

The singing sensation from Richland Township will perform at the Mann Center August 25.

If you're looking for something to do next month, maybe a quick trip to Philadelphia is the answer. Richland Township's own Jackie Evancho will bring her "Dream With Me" tour to Philadelphia  August 25.  The 12-year old soprano will perform with The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia at The Mann Center.   According to the Ticketmaster website, the "meet and greet" ticket packages are sold out, but other tickets are still available for the 8 pm Saturday night performance. The Mann Center is located in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park and is a covered, outdoor performance venue.  The gates open at 6 pm for Jackie's concert.
