Restaurant Spotlight: Thai Place

Lots of Pine-Richland area restaurants, shops and other great places can be found in our directory. Review them here!

This week's restaurant spotlight is on Thai Place, located at 12009 Perry Highway in Pine. Thai Place has three locations in Pittsburgh, including the restaurant in the Pine Tree Shoppes. It features a wide variety of Thai cuisine and entrees, including standards such as spring rolls, noodles and steamed dumplings. Thai food is known to be spicy, but well prepared traditional Thai dishes should not be predominantly so, according to the Thai Place owners. Dinner typically consists usually of at least three dishes served with rice. It is recommended the dishes be shared. Throughout the years, Thai Place has played host to several celebrity diners, including rockers U2, pro tennis player Martina Navratilova and Steelers star Troy Polamalu. …

New Wexford Restaurant Makes Offer It Hopes Diners Won't Refuse

Bonnie & Clyde's is the first "theme restaurant from owner of North Park Lounges in Cranberry and McCandless.

When North Hills restaurateur Mark Baranowski was looking for inspiration for his next venture, he turned to the movies. A fan of films about the gangsters from the 1920s, he came up with Bonnie and Clyde’s, which opened Feb. 15 in the Pine Tree Shoppes, 12087 Perry Highway in Wexford.  The site had been home to the Blue Water Tavern. “When Mark took over, he gutted the restaurant and redid everything,” said Bonnie & Clyde’s General Manager Katie Malone. “He loves the gangster theme, he even bought a replica of the infamous duo’s getaway car, a 1937 Cadillac, which is now parked outside the restaurant.”   Inside the white sedan sits a mannequin, appearing to be waiting for his accomplice to join him.  Baranowski owns the North Park Lounge …

Traditional Mexican Food, Artwork Make Patron's A Fun Place to Dine

Authenticity is the key to this Wexford restaurant.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in, but we've got a better idea. Each week, Pine-Richland Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice: Overview: When you come to dine at Patron Mexican Grill, you’ll certainly enjoy its traditional Mexican foods as well as its authentic Mexican artwork and lively décor. Best of all you’ll savor its reasonable prices. Decor: You’ll feel as if you’ve been transported to Mexico. The chairs, wooden booths and tables were hand carved and painted with sombreros, peppers, pottery, maracas, and various Mexican artifacts. Bright, colorful Mexican paintings grace the beautiful stucco walls throughout the …

Olives & Peppers: Worth the Wait

Richland restaurant may have long wait times, but food is delicious.

The building is so small and unassuming, you could easily pass right by Olives & Peppers Restaurant, but you don’t want to do that. The homemade pasta dishes, outstanding pizza and fresh salads served in the Richland restaurant at 6052 William Flynn Highway are not to be missed. And beer lovers will rejoice when they see the beer list with over 70 offerings. Our first visit to Olives & Peppers was for lunch after a recommendation by my mother. I had the antipasta salad and the rest of my family had pizza. The antipasta salad was a typical, Italian offering, but the pizza had my family singing its praises – after they were done eating it, of course. No one wanted to pause to talk. The crust was fresh and thick, the sauce was perfectly …

Ichiban Grills Food to Near Perfection

Electrifying Hibachi chefs make dining fun.

If you're in the mood for some fine Japanese cuisine, you may want to check out Ichiban Steakhouse & Sushi Bar located in the Village at Pine Shopping Plaza in Pine Township. My wife and I decided to give this restaurant a try earlier this week and were pleased with our dining experience. It features Hibachi chefs who cook your main course at your table as well as a full Sushi bar. Like any other Hibachi restaurant, you'll be seated with other patrons, so if you're not comfortable sitting elbow to elbow with strangers, you may want to opt for booth seating, but then you'll miss out on the electrifying and entertaining Hibachi chefs. Ichiban offers a wide selection of meats, seafood and vegetables on its menu. My wife ordered the Hibachi …

Blue Water Tavern Celebrates Feast of Seven Fishes

Wexford restaurant honors the classic Italian tradition.

Blue Water Tavern seemed a natural for the Italian tradition of the Feast of the Seven Fishes. Known for featuring fresh seafood, the Wexford restaurant started the tradition of serving the feast on Dec. 23 last year, said Blue Water Tavern owner Matthew Hughes. Traditionally, the Feast of the Seven Fishes is served on Christmas Eve and includes seven types of seafood. The Blue Water dinner featured everything from baccala to oysters to crab. Executive Chef Brandon King tells us about the tradition as he takes a quick break from preparing the dishes served at the eatery in the Pine Tree Shoppes.

Pines Tavern Experience Delectable

Restaurant's decor is as wonderful as its food.

The Pines Tavern is arguably the premier restaurant in the Pine-Richland area, and with good reason. Its atmosphere, food and service are impeccable.   We visited on a Friday night about two weeks before Christmas. The Pines decor is classic and tasteful year-round, but the restaurant is so beautifully decorated during the Christmas season that it's worth a visit just to enjoy the lush holiday ambience. The biggest misconception about the Pines Tavern is that it is an expensive restaurant.  It is upscale, and it can be expensive, but it offers several menu options that make it very affordable.  The evening we were there the Pines offered a regular dinner menu, a weekly specials dinner menu and the evening version of the lunch menu with …
