Hearing Postponed for Richland Man Charged With Killing Grandmother

Levi Staver is charged with criminal homicide.

The preliminary hearing for Levi Daniel Staver, who is charged with stabbing his grandmother to death at their Richland Township home, has been postponed. Originally scheduled for Friday, the hearing has been postponed until June 7 before Judge Donna Jo McDaniel, according to court documents. Staver, 26, is in the Allegheny County Jail; his bail request was denied. Staver stabbed his grandmother in the back Tuesday morning as she and his grandfather were sitting at the kitchen table eating breakfast, Northern Regional Police Chief T. Robert Amman said. Police: Richland Man Charged with Killing Grandmother Said Archangel Directed Him to Kill

Levi Staver is in the Allegheny County Jail, awaiting a hearing Friday.

The 26-year-old Richland man charged with killing his grandmother told police he was sitting at the computer in his bedroom when the archangel directed him to “kill the witch”, according to a criminal complaint. Levi Daniel Staver is charged with criminal homicide for Tuesday’s stabbing death of his grandmother, Constance Johnston, at their Richland Township home. According to the criminal complaint, Staver told detectives that he made the sign of the cross, got dressed like a soldier, took a sword and said, “This thing has got to go”. Allegheny County detectives said Staver used a large, black bowie knife, not a sword, the complaint states. UPDATED: Man Stabs Grandmother to Death at Richland Home, Police Say

Levi Daniel Staver, 26, is in the custody of Allegheny County Police.

A 26-year-old man stabbed his grandmother to death Tuesday morning  at their Richland Township home, Northern Regional Police Chief T. Robert Amman said. Levi Daniel Staver was outside the home in the 3900 block of Gibsonia Road (Route 910) when police arrived about 9:40 a.m. and took him into custody, Amann said. Staver's grandmother, Constance Johnston, 76, was dead on the living room floor where she had collapsed, the police chief said. Staver had come up from the basement and stabbed his grandmother in the back as she and his grandfather were sitting at the kitchen table eating breakfast, Amann said. Do You Recognize This Man? Police Release Surveillance Photos of Robbery Suspect

Police say this man, armed with a gun, held up the BP Gas station and convenience store in Wexford Tuesday morning.

Northern Regional Police  have released surveillance photos of a man they say is responsible for the armed robbery at the BP Gas station and convenience store located in the T-Bones shopping plaza on Route 910 near the I-79 interchange in Wexford on Tuesday morning. Police Chief T. Robert Amann said a white man, about 6 feet tall and wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt and blue jeans, held up the convenience store between the gas pumps at 10:44 a.m. Tuesday. Amann said the man showed a handgun to store workers.  After the robbery, police said the suspect ran across Route 910 and jumped into a car that was parked at Soergel's market. Two Pine-Richland Teens Who Made Lewd Comments to Young Girl Caught

Police Chief T. Robert Amann said the boys are 17-year-old Pine-Richland High School students.

Two teens who made lewd comments to a 10-year-old girl as she walked home from the bus stop in her Richland neighborhood last week have been charged with harassment, said Northern Regional Police Chief T. Robert Amann. The teens—both 17-year-old Pine-Richland High School students—will perform community service, the chief said. He did not release their names because they are juveniles. Amann said the girl and a 9-year-old boy were walking together down Woodhill Drive in the Orchard Park neighborhood Thursday after getting off their school bus when they encountered the teens. Police Looking for Teens Who Made Lewd Remarks to 10-Year-Old Girl in Orchard Park

Two teen boys in a black sedan made lewd remarks to a 10-year-old girl as she walked home in the Orchard Park neighborhood Thursday afternoon and police are seeking information about them. Northern Regional Police Chief T. Robert Amann said the girl and a 9-year-old boy were walking together down Woodhill Drive after getting off their school bus when the teens made the lewd remarks and drove off.  The children were not physically harmed during the short encounter about 4 p.m. in the Richland Township neighborhood, the chief said. The children described the car's driver as a white male and the passenger as a black male in a white skull cap with some sort of makeup or paint under his eyes, Amann said. Pine-Richland Fared 'Pretty Well' in Superstorm Sandy, Police Chief Reports

No road closures or flooding reported in the area, but a tree hit a house on Applewood Drive in Richland.

Despite dire warnings about the wrath of Superstorm Sandy, the weather did no major damage in the Pine-Richland area. "Actually, we fared pretty well," Northern Regional Police Chief T. Robert Amann said Tuesday morning, noting no road closures or major flooding issues have been reported. But, a tree hit a house on Applewood Drive in Richland during the storm, he said. "We're watching areas that have had flooding in the past. For now, there are no major problems," Amann said. The flood-prone areas are: In Marshall Township, police are monitoring the Brush Creek area near Northgate Drive and Warrendale Road. No traffic problems were reported overnight, the chief said. Burglary Reported on State Road in Richland Township

Incident happened Friday afternoon.

A Richland Township residence was burglarized Friday afternoon, according to Northern Regional Police Chief T. Robert Amann. A TV, jewelry and two electronic items were stolen from the State Road home, Amann said. There was no forced entry, he added. The burglary occurred between noon and 7:30 p.m., the chief said. Fire Heavily Damages House in Richland Township

Multiple fire departments responded to the fire in the 6000 block of Station Hill Road.

A Richland Township home was heavily damaged by fire Friday morning, but no injuries were reported, said Fire Chief Jim Kelly of the Richland Volunteer Fire Department.  “We found there was smoke coming out of the building when we got here. It appears the fire started somewhere in the basement area; it burned up through the floor,” Kelly said of the house fire in the 6000 block of Station Hill Road. “Crews were able to get in fairly easy and [were] able to attack the fire and knock it down in a quick manner,” he added. Homeowner Rich Laszczynski said he had no idea what caused the fire.
