Fan Contests Planned for Pittsburgh Penguins Rally on Tuesday

Fans are also encouraged to bring video cameras or cell phones to film a Penguins version of the Harlem Shake led by the winner of the dance contest.

Allegheny County will host a rally in celebration of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ second-round playoff series against the Ottawa Senators. The event will take place at noon on Tuesday, May 14, in the courtyard of the Allegheny County Courthouse located at 436 Grant Street in downtown Pittsburgh. WDVE’s Val Porter will emcee the rally, which will feature the following five contests for Penguins fans: Winners of the costume, cheer, banner/sign and dance contests will be determined by audience vote. Prizes include rounds of golf for four at a county golf course, day passes to a county pool, Penguins shirts and rally towels. Pittsburgh Penguins Playoff Rally Set for Wednesday

Fans are invited to the Annihilate the Islanders rally in downtown Pittsburgh.

Allegheny County officials are planning an Annihilate the Islanders rally before the Pittsburgh Penguins' first playoff game Wednesday, May 1. The rally begins at noon in the Allegheny Courthouse courtyard and includes giveaways from the Penguins and Turner's Dairy and an appearance from Iceburgh. Val Porter from WDVE will host the event and the Kardasz Brothers will perform live music. The best-of-seven playoff series against the New York Islanders begins at 7:30 p.m. at Consol Energy Center. Appearances by Penguins Forwards Highlight Reopening of Wexford Giant Eagle

The newly remodeled store on McKnight Road features a beer selection, an expanded prepared-food section and other upgrades, according to Giant Eagle officials

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Joe Vitale will appear and visit with fans from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Giant Eagle grocery in Wexford as part of activities planned for the reopening of the newly remodeled store. Forward Pascal Dupuis also will appear from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at the store at 9805 McKnight Road. Additional activities, featuring musicians, clowns and other attractions, will be scheduled for customers in upcoming weeks, store officials said in a statement. Customers now will be permitted to purchase and carry out two six-packs of beer or buy two beers to drink with an in-store meal, Giant Eagle officials said. Eat’n Park is giving guests something to smile about Wednesday—especially if they’re wearing Pittsburgh Penguins gear. To celebrate the delayed start of the National Hockey League season, Eat’n Park is giving away free Smiley Cookies to anyone wearing Pens attire to the restaurants on Wednesday, Jan. 23. Wednesday also is the first home game of the season for the 2-0 Pens. Nearby: UPMC/Penguins Sports Complex Takes Another Tentative Step

Developers unveil conceptual plans for the cutting-edge sports medicine facility and rink to Cranberry Township’s Planning Commission.

With the NHL lockout over, Pittsburgh Penguins hockey is back. And if you can’t catch the team’s star players on the ice, you may soon see them in Cranberry Township. At a Planning Advisory Commission meeting in Cranberry earlier this week, UPMC and Pittsburgh Penguins took a tentative step closer to partnering on the construction of a cutting-edge sports complex in the community. Representatives on Tuesday presented revised concept drawings for the Village of Cranberry Woods, a five-phase plan that includes two hotels, apartments, townhouses and retail space. Taking up a large chunk of the site along Route 228 will be the UPMC/Pens performance center and practice rink. The complex aims to be similar to the UPMC sports performance complex …

Pens, UPMC Making Plans for State-Of-The-Art Sports Complex in Cranberry

Township manager Jerry Andree says facility still is far from a done deal.

Plans are in the infancy stage for the Pittsburgh Penguins to partner with UPMC on a cutting edge performance center and practice rink in Cranberry. "It's really going to be a one-of-the-kind in the country," said Penguins spokesman Tom McMillan. The proposed 150,000 square foot complex would be located in the Cranberry Woods business park off Route 228—near the newly-opened Hilton Garden Inn—and offer hockey-related training and injury treatment and prevention. McMillan said the facility would be similar in nature to the UPMC sports performance complex on Pittsburgh's South Side, which is used by the Steelers and the University of Pittsburgh and includes sports medicine, practice and training facilities With its attachment to an NHL team …

Pine-Richland Elementaries to Get Free Hockey Equipment

Pine-Richland School Board accepts donation of hockey equipment from Pittsburgh Penguins ASSIST Foundation for district elementary schools.

The Pine-Richland School Board voted unanimously Monday night to accept a donation of hockey equipment from the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation to introduce Pine-Richland elementary students to the sport of hockey and also to facilitate an increase in physical activity. There are no district costs associated with this program or for accepting this equipment. The street hockey equipment that Pine-Richland is receiving from the Penguins ASSIST program is available to elementary schools (both public & private) in Allegheny County.  In addition to providing the equipment, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and CALU, have teamed up to create a street hockey curriculum for implementation into the physical education …
