Pine-Richland Superintendent Search: President Says Board Says Candidates Are Being Examined ‘Closely’

Officials have concluded the first round of interviews of potential replacements for Dr. Mary Bucci.

In a letter to Pine-Richland parents and residents, school board President Peter Lyons said officials have concluded their initial interviews of potential candidates to replace superintendent Dr. Mary Bucci. They are now examining a number of candidates more closely, Lyons said. “This will include additional interaction with the board and a thorough examination of candidate backgrounds, as we assess the leadership qualities, experiences and abilities of each candidate,” Lyons wrote in the letter, which was posted on the district's website. The board began seeking a new superintendent after Bucci resigned in December. Prior to that, district officials had voted 5-3 not to renew Bucci's contract when it expired this year. Interviews to Begin in Search for New Pine-Richland Schools Superintendent

School board expects to hire superintendent in April to replace Dr. Mary Bucci, who resigned in December. The district did not plan to renew her contract.

The search for a new superintendent for Pine-Richland School District switched gears recently as the deadline to apply for the job passed and the hiring process moved into the interviewing phase. "The board is engaged in the selection of the first round of interviewees," school board President Peter Lyons said Monday. Lyons offered no details except to say the board would start interviewing applicants in February. The board seeks to hire a replacement for former superintendent Dr. Mary Bucci, who resigned in December after district officials said they did not plan to renew her contract. Focus Group to Discuss Pine-Richland Schools Superintendent Search

The school board has contracted with the Pennsylvania School Board Association for consultation services in the search for a new superintendent, including surveys and focus group discussions.

Pine-Richland residents are being asked to give their opinions Monday at a focus group discussion about hiring a new schools superintendent. The former superintendent, Dr. Mary Bucci, resigned after the Pine-Richland School Board voted not to renew her contract at the end of June 2013. Assistant Superintendent Dr. David Foley is currently acting as the interim superintendent. The school board has contracted with the Pennsylvania School Board Association for consultation services in the search for a new superintendent, including surveys and focus group discussions. I would hope that our next superintendent would invest little time trying to match the oft times, redundant moves of neighboring school boards and focus on the economic realities of school funding today. The superfluous spending on employee compensation packages and the fiscal realities of today no longer can be mutually exclusive. UPDATED: Pine-Richland Schools Superintendent Mary Bucci Resigns

The Pine-Richland School Board informed Bucci in October that it would not renew her contract when it expires at the end of June.

UPDATED: The updated portions of the story are in bold face. Superintendent Dr. Mary Bucci has notified the Pine-Richland School Board that she intends to resign effective Jan. 8 and retire from public education. The nine-member board voted unanimously to accept her resignation Monday at its annual reorganization meeting, "thanking her for her long service to public education and wishing her well in retirement," according to the agenda on the district's website.
