Three PR Athletes Sign With Colleges on National Signing Day

Olivia Brandy, C.J. Jackson and Patrick Kline put their post-graduation plans in writing.

Three Pine-Richland athletes signed letters of intent Wednesday, committing to play sports at Penn State, California University of Pennsylvania and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Olivia Brandy will play soccer at Penn State; Patrick Kline will attend Cal U to play football; and fellow football player C.J. Jackson will play for the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Hawks. They signed their letters and posed for photos in Pine-Richland High School's athletics office. Also in attendance were five football players who plan to be walk-ons at various colleges: Kevin Rader—Youngstown State T.J. Muzzonigro—Tufts University Luke Merhaut—Clarion University Nicolas Elms—is deciding between several schools Brock Baranowski—Penn State. …

Pittsburgh Pirate Neil Walker Named to WPIAL Hall of Fame

The Pirates' second baseman was a star athlete at Pine-Richland High School.

Neil Walker—at the ripe old age of 26—is a Hall of Famer. The former Pine-Richland High School star athlete, who now plays for the Pittsburgh Pirates, was named Thursday to the WPIAL Hall of Fame. The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League announced its 2012 Hall of Fame class at a news conference Thursday morning, according to a report in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. UPDATE: Pitt Lacrosse Game at PR Stadium Canceled; Other Activities Still Scheduled

Pitt Panthers were scheduled to take on the University of Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday.

UPDATE: The Pitt vs. University of Indiana lacrosse game scheduled for today (Saturday) at Pine-Richland Stadium has been canceled, but other activities will go on as scheduled. Included in the $3 price of admission is a youth clinic from 12:30-1:30 p.m. for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. Fans also are invited to meet and greet the Pitt players. Mighty Penguins Sled Hockey Team Takes on PR on Saturday

Game will be played at BladeRunners Ice Complex in Warrendale.

Looking for a unique outing on Saturday night? How about a sled hockey challenge? The Mighty Penguins Sled Hockey Team is taking on the Pine-Richland varsity ice hockey team at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at BladeRunners Ice Complex in Warrendale. A $5 donation is requested at the door. “Sled hockey is a fast-growing, internationally recognized sport and a key event in the Paralympic games,” according to the website for the Mighty Penguins Sled Hockey team. “It provides a means for physically challenged individuals to play competitive ice hockey.” The players in Saturday’s challenge will take to the ice on sleds fitted with skates, the website explains. “They use shortened hockey sticks with picks on the end to move along the ice and control the …
