Celebrity Chefs to Appear at Grand Opening for Giant Eagle Market District in Pine

Cake Boss Buddy Valastro, Top Chef's Michael Isabella and other culinary stars to appear Thursday through Sunday.

No grand opening for a Giant Eagle Market District would be complete without culinary stars. Quite a few will be on hand as the Pine Giant Eagle makes its transition to Market District status from 9 a.m. Thursday to 9 p.m. Sunday with grand opening festivities. The grand opening in the store at 155 Towne Centre Drive in Wexford will feature food samples, demonstrations, giveaways, children's activities, live music and surprises. TLC's Cake Boss Buddy Valastro will sign copies of his latest book, Baking with the Cake Boss: 100 of Buddy's Best Recipes and Decorating Secrets, at 1 p.m. Thursday. Second Annual Polar Plunge Makes A Big Splash for Special Olympics

Fundraiser doubles in size and donations as plungers take frigid dip in Ohio River.

Though it’s only the second year teams from the Pittsburgh area have braved the cold waters of the Ohio River for the Special Olympics Polar Plunge, the event has managed to double in attendance, donations and perhaps even enthusiasm. Though the water was reported to be 39 degrees, the sun shone brightly Sunday on Heinz Field. “You couldn’t have asked for a prettier day,” said Sandra Bradshaw of Bethel Park. Crowds gathered early at the stadium in anticipation of the plunge that began at noon. Of those attending, about 1,300 were on teams that jumped into the Ohio River from the Heinz Field boat launch to raise money for the Special Olympics.
