Glade Run Conservancy Plans Townhall Meeting

The grassroots group is dedicated to restoring Glade Run Lake in Middlesex.

A group dedicated to restoring the 52-acre Glade Run Lake in Middlesex Township is having a townhall meeting later this month.   The Glade Run Lake Conservancy, established by a group of concerned citizens, will host the meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 25 in the Mars Area High School auditorium. The group wants to share its vision to resolve safety issues at the lake and offer the public a chance to ask questions.  In the spring of 2011, the state Department of Environmental Protection declared the leaking dam impounding the lake was in "highly hazardous" condition. The state Fish and Boat Commission was ordered to draw down the lake to a safe level. The conservancy estimates costs to rebuild the spillway and improve the dam around $4 …

UPDATE: Mars Area High School Evacuated After Bomb Threat

The district will increase security at the school Tuesday.

Mars Area High School was evacuated Monday afternoon after the district learned of a bomb threat at the school. “Upon notification of the threat, the district immediately contacted Adams Township Police Department and is taking the necessary steps to ensure the safety of our students, faculty and staff members,” Superintendent Dr. William Pettigrew said in a note to parents on the district's website. All students were sent to Mars Area Middle School while police and district staff members conducted a sweep of the building. The high school students were dismissed at the end of the school day from the middle school, Pettigrew said. Police Capture Five of Six Teens Suspected in Limo Hijacking

Police are still searching for an 18-year-old runaway from the Mars Home for Youth.

After a confession by one of the teens, five of the six teens who are accused of hijacking a limo Wednesday after running away from the Mars Home for Youth are back in custody today. Adams Township Police Chief Bill Westerman said police are continuing to look for an 18-year-old youth who remains on the lam. Pittsburgh Police found four of the teens, ages 15 to 17, hanging out near the stolen limo on Pittsburgh’s North Side during the night.  Westerman said he did not know what time the teens were apprehended. A juvenile probation officer brought them back to the Adams Township police department for questioning, he said.
