Pine-Richland School Board Director Katie Shogan came to Monday night's meeting with a very small future student. Her newborn son, Ben, slept in her arms through the meeting as the nine directors carried on business. Ben was born Oct. 27, coming into the world at 8 pounds 5 ounces and 20 inches long. Ben is the third child born to Katie and Andrew Shogan. His siblings are Drew and Anabel. Katie Shogan was appointed to the school board in May to replace Director Richard Herko. Katie Shogan—a Wexford resident with teaching credentials and a master's degree in education policy and management—was tapped Thursday night to fill a vacant seat on the Pine-Richland School Board. The board voted 7-0 for Shogan to fill the Region 1 seat vacated by Director Richard Herko, who resigned because he is relocating to California. During a two-hour special meeting, the school board interviewed Shogan, Jennifer Kraus, Greg DiTullio and Dan Crnarich.
