UPDATE: KDKA'S Larry Richert will be a guest referee and will drop the puck Wednesday night as rivals Pine-Richland and North Allegheny face off in the second annual Ice Storm hockey game at North Park Ice Rink. The puck drops three times—5 p.m. for the junior varsity game; 6:30 p.m. for the alumni matchup, with Richert as guest referee; and 8 p.m. for the varsity game, with Richert dropping the puck. The gates open at 4 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 students and free for kids age 10 and under. P-R alumni team triumphs in "The Ice Storm" games at North Park Ice Rink.
Monday night, "The Ice Storm" games, which pit Pine-Richland against rival North Allegheny, were watched by crowds of cheering fans under the bright lights of the North Park Ice Rink. This was a rare opportunity to see the high schools face off: They don't play each other in league games because NA is AAA and P-R is at the AA level. According to Pine-Richland coach Mike Bagnato, the event was a success. "We had a really really good night," he said. "It was an outdoor game and some of our alumni haven't had the chance to experience an outdoor game." Among the Pine-Richland alumni playing was George Saad, a forward for the Penn State Hockey team.
