UPDATE: Several hundred people were waiting in line Thursday morning when the ribbon was cut, opening the new Bottom Dollar Foods store in Ross Towne Center, located at 7221 McKnight Road. The grand opening festivities included giveaways of free private brand products to the first 200 customers, free reusable bags while supplies last, along with a guest appearance by former Pittsburgh Steeler L.C. Greenwood, who signed autographs. The new store opened as its next-door neighbor, Valu King, owned by Giant Eagle, continues to prepare for its opening sometime in October or November. The Fresh Market will be the first in Pittsburgh and the third in Pennsylvania.
The Fresh Market will open its first store in western Pennsylvania. Mt. Lebanon commissioners gave final approval last week for the gourmet supermarket chain to demolish the old Roth Carpet store on the corner of Route 19 and Connor Road and construct a new building. The Fresh Market representatives have said that construction will begin as soon as possible. It will be the latest addition to Pittsburgh area grocery stores. Shoppers in the Pine-Richland area have seen grand openings for several grocery stores in the past year—ALDI, Market District and Whole Foods. The Fresh Market's application had been under consideration since last summer. Mt. Lebanon officials had concerns about traffic. Two new driveways will be built along Connor Road…
