Gluten-free cookbook authors Silvana Nardone and Brittany Angell will present special cooking classes and book signings on Saturday, May 18 at Naturally Soergel's in celebration of the store's fourth anniversary. PennDOT announces overhead utility work that will involve traffic stops in both directions.
Motorists traveling Interstate 79 through Franklin Park over the weekend should be prepared to stop on Sunday if necessary. PennDOT has announced that traffic in both directions on I-79 will be stopped intermittently on Sunday morning, March 24, while crews perform overhead utility work. The brief stoppages of 15 minutes or less will occur between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. Sunday in the area just south of the Route 910/Wexford Bayne Road (Exit 73) interchange. PennDOT is not involved in the work. Crews under contract with Consolidated Communications, Inc. will be performing the cable work across I-79. Additional slow traffic may also occur on I-79. A Franklin Park couple has been ordered to stand trial after waiving a preliminary hearing today (Thursday) on charges of abusing and starving two children they adopted from Ethiopia nearly a year ago. Prosecutors dropped two aggravated assault charges against Douglas Barbour, 33, who appeared in Leetsdale District Court alongside his wife, Kristen Barbour, 30, of Cole Road for a preliminary hearing. Douglas Barbour, a Pennsylvania deputy attorney general, has been suspended from his state job without pay since he and his wife were arrested Oct. 4. A Franklin Park couple accused of physically abusing and starving two children they adopted from Ethiopia in March now face additional charges. Prosecutors amended charges today against Douglas Barbour, 33, and his wife, Kristen Barbour, 30, of Cole Road, at a preliminary hearing scheduled before District Judge Robert Ford in Leetsdale. As a result of the new charges, defense attorneys asked that the preliminary hearing for the couple again be postponed. A new court date is set for Jan. 18. Among the new charges filed was an additional count of aggravated assault related to the Barbour's 6-year-old adopted son. Pine-Richland motorists traveling to and from Pittsburgh will see some orange cones on their commute this week. PennDOT crews will conduct minor deck repairs on the bridges that carry Interstate 79 over Red Mud Hollow Road and Nicholson Road in Franklin Park Wednesday and Thursday, weather permitting. PennDOT maintenance workers will be repairing concrete on the bridges between the I-279 (Parkway North Exit 72) and Mt. Nebo Road (Exit 68) interchanges. Single-lane closures will occur in both directions as needed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, a statement from PennDOT said.
