Reminder: Pine-Richland School Board to Vote on New Superintendent Monday

The board has narrowed the search to a single candidate from a neighboring school district.

The Pine-Richland school board is expected to vote at tonight’s school board meeting on whether to appoint Dr. Brian R. Miller as the new superintendent of schools. Miller currently is assistant superintendent of K-12 education at North Allegheny School District. He would replace Dr. Mary Bucci, who resigned in December after officials voted 5-3 not to renew her contract when it expired this year. School Board President Peter Lyons said in an email notification to parents Friday evening that officials settled on Miller as Bucci’s replacement after a great deal of research and several rounds of interviews. “Dr. Miller has an excellent record of accomplishment at North Allegheny School District, where he began teaching in 1996,” Lyons wrote …

Dr. Miller has the background and education for the job, that's for certain. The wit and wisdom to balance people skills with the heavy weight decisions coming across his desk in the mornings may be his greatest asset for the job. Wishing him well, and wishing Pine-Richland community to be the volunteers and self-starters to make every District Superintendent jealous of. Good luck all.   more ›

I would hope that our next superintendent would invest little time trying to match the oft times, redundant moves of neighboring school boards and focus on the economic realities of school funding today. The superfluous spending on employee compensation packages and the fiscal realities of today no longer can be mutually exclusive. He/she/we must not only expect more from what we are spending on …   more ›

UPDATED: Pine-Richland Schools Superintendent Mary Bucci Resigns

The Pine-Richland School Board informed Bucci in October that it would not renew her contract when it expires at the end of June.

Superintendent Dr. Mary Bucci has notified the Pine-Richland School Board that she intends to resign effective Jan. 8 and retire from public education. The nine-member board voted unanimously to accept her resignation Monday at its annual reorganization meeting, "thanking her for her long service to public education and wishing her well in retirement," according to the agenda on the district's website. (See video.) Bucci was not at the meeting. Newly elected school board President Peter Lyons said the board will begin mapping out a plan for moving forward following the meeting. At its last meeting, the board voted to pay $15,000 to contract with the Pennsylvania School Board …

It is a shame that in 4 years, Mary Bucci replaced every building principal, the elementary math program, the elementary reading program, redirected the high school through introduction of constructivist STEM/STEAM program, discontinued televising the board meetings, started the extreme leftist high school symposium, seen an increase in bullying, the retirement of many good and experienced …   more ›

Pine-Richland School Board to Pay $15,000 for Consultant in Search for Superintendent

Superintendent Dr. Mary Bucci's contract will not be renewed when it ends June 30.

The Pine-Richland School Board voted unanimously Monday to pay $15,000 to the Pennsylvania School Board Association for consultation services in the search for a new superintendent. The services include advertising, recruiting, reference checks, as well as selection and screening assistance. The current superintendent, Dr. Mary Bucci, will not be retained when her contract expires June 30, the board decided in a split vote in October. My bad. It says "Superintendents across the state are not pleased with the new rules". I'm glad at least someone read the link. And you are rude in your attempt to squelch the views of people who think PRSD and the school board are wasteful and incompetent.   more ›

Pine-Richland Schools Superintendent Mary Bucci Receives 3 Percent Pay Raise

Bucci, whose contract has not been renewed, voluntarily declined a pay raise in the previous school year.

After voting in October not to renew Superintendent Dr. Mary Bucci's contract when it expires, the Pine-Richland School Board voted unanimously Monday to give her a 3 percent pay increase—boosting her annual salary to $139,256 for the 2012-13 school year. The increase comes more than four months into the school district's fiscal year because the board was waiting for Bucci's evaluation to be completed, board Secretary Tara Bennett said. The pay increase is retroactive to July 1, the beginning of the school district's fiscal year. Her contract ends June 30. Bucci voluntarily declined a pay increase for the 2011-12 school year as the district struggled with budget cuts. During Monday's meeting, School Board President Stephen Hawbaker said …

Really? You would have to see her contract. I am sure the contract has some sort of clause that after the evaluation is complete Dr Bucci is entitled to a pay increase. A pay increase has nothing to do with a contractual renewal. It looks like the Board wants to change direction of the district. Budgets cuts are always hard. I am sure the Board made their decision being well informed, unlike some…   more ›
