Jergels, BRGR Named Finalists in 'Pittsburgh's Best Burger' Contest

Voting in the WPXI contest is open until Tuesday, March 26.

Who has the best burger in the Pittsburgh area? Well, it might just be Jergels Rhythm Grille. The Warrendale restaurant is one of nine finalists in the running for WPXI's "Pittsburgh's Best Burgers" Contest. Online voting opened to the public on Monday and will close at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 26. Viewers can vote for their favorite burger before the top three winners are revealed the week of March 25. Winners are determined based on a combination of votes and taste test scores, according to WPXI.  WXPI invited the top finalists—chosen in February—to submit a signature burger, and a panel of celebrity judges, including personalities from WPXI, KISS FM, Pittsburgh Zoo and The ScareHouse judged them on taste, appearance and texture.  Other …

Nearby: UPMC/Penguins Sports Complex Takes Another Tentative Step

Developers unveil conceptual plans for the cutting-edge sports medicine facility and rink to Cranberry Township’s Planning Commission.

With the NHL lockout over, Pittsburgh Penguins hockey is back. And if you can’t catch the team’s star players on the ice, you may soon see them in Cranberry Township. At a Planning Advisory Commission meeting in Cranberry earlier this week, UPMC and Pittsburgh Penguins took a tentative step closer to partnering on the construction of a cutting-edge sports complex in the community. Representatives on Tuesday presented revised concept drawings for the Village of Cranberry Woods, a five-phase plan that includes two hotels, apartments, townhouses and retail space. UPDATE: Cranberry Woman Dies in Overnight Blaze that Destroys Fox Run Home

Neighbors identify the victim as Denise Francis.

One woman is dead after fire destroyed her home early Tuesday in the Fox Run neighborhood in Cranberry Township. Cranberry Township firefighters and police were called to the home in the 100 block of Fox Run Road when fire broke out at 1:50 a.m. Cranberry Fire Chief Brian Kovac said a husband and wife lived in the home. According to Butler County property records, the home is owned by George and Denise Francis. The wife, who was bedridden in the first-floor bedroom of the home due to health issues, died in the fire. Rick Kumer, who lives next door to the couple, said Denise Francis suffered from multiple sclerosis Kovac said the fast-moving flames may have been fed by oxygen in tanks used by the woman because of her medical condition.
