‘Elefamilia’ Documenting Birth of Pittsburgh Zoo Elephants to Premiere in Area

The screening will include fun family activities, a Q & A with the filmmakers and zoo “elephant whisperer” Will Thieson, plus much more.

Weise was born with Apert syndrome, a rare genetic disease that causes craniofacial abnormalities, including fused skulls, fingers and toes. For the second year in a row, he is hosting a showing of Torey’s Distraction at Cranberry Cinemas. “I feel a responsibility to keep educating people about my condition,” Wiese said. “It’s a very rare condition, and not many people know about it.” An award-winning documentary, Torey’s Distraction, follows the life of Torey Harrah, who, like Wiese, has Apert syndrome. Harrah is preparing for a surgery that has been performed only 18 times in the world. Along her journey to a new face, she also tries …

News Nearby: Hunger Games Premieres Tonight at Cranberry Cinemas

The theater has planned a food drive in conjunction with the event.

Warning: important plot point ahead. Throughout the first book in The Hunger Games trilogy, the 24 teenage boy and girl tributes competing in the fight-to-the-death tournament that’s broadcast live on national television might receive care packages parachuted into the arena from interested viewers.  After reading the popular young adult novel, Caroline Hudacsek, assistant manager at Cranberry Cinemas, liked the concept so much she brainstormed it into a food drive to benefit a local charity.  “I thought it would be an easy tie-in with the movie,” she said. In preparation for tonight’s midnight premiere of The Hunger Games, the theater is collecting non-perishable food items to benefit Gleaners Food Bank of Cranberry, which provides food to…
