Northern Regional police are proving you can find just about anything on Craigslist—even burglary suspects. Chief T. Robert Amman said officers from the department used the classified advertisement website to track down a Pittsburgh man suspected of stealing power tools from businesses across the North Hills. “It was good work done by them,” Amman said. “They were checking Craigslist and they found some matches on the tools taken.” Jeremy Lee Caskey, 31, of McKees Rocks, is charged with theft, receiving stolen property, burglary and criminal mischief in the incidents. A pair of Pittsburgh men, identified by police as suspects in a string of break-ins in several northern suburbs last year, will stand trial for burglaries committed in Pine and McCandless. Brian Flesher, 26, and Garrett Lucas, 24, were ordered held for court Wednesday after both waived their right to preliminary hearings before Magisterial District Judge William Wagner. Flesher faces multiple counts of burglary, theft and other offenses stemming from burglaries at homes and at least one business in Pine Township, McCandless, Franklin Park, and Ross, Ohio and Moon townships, according to police and court documents. When Brian Flesher met with police at the beginning of December, he told them he wanted to get everything out in the open so he could begin to get help for his drug addiction, according to a criminal complaint. The cause and manner of death for a 20-year-old Richland man who was awaiting trial on multiple charges will not be determined for months, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office said Saturday. Stephen Hudec died Friday morning, just two days after waiving his preliminary hearing on 31 counts that included burglary; theft; loitering and prowling at night; receiving stolen property; and conspiracy. A 20-year-old Richland man is charged with going on a crime spree in the Pine-Richland area, breaking into homes and cars to steal thousands of dollars worth of electronics, a gun, cash and other items to support his drug addiction, according to court documents. Stephen Paul Hudec appeared Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge William K. Wagner for a preliminary hearing, but it was postponed for a week. He faces 32 charges—nine counts of burglary; 14 counts of theft; two counts of loitering and prowling at night; three counts of receiving stolen property; and four counts of criminal conspiracy. Franklin Park police are warning residents after a series of daylight burglaries. According to the police department website, there have been four break-ins since Nov. 12. Nebo Road, police said a family returning from vacation found thousands of dollars of jewelry missing. There have been four break-ins since Oct. 17 in homes within a mile of the Northway Mall.
Ross Township police are spending a lot of extra time in several neighborhoods in the vicinity of Northway Mall, where a burglar or burglars struck four times within a week. "The increased patrols include patrol cars, bicycle patrol, and plain-clothes officers in unmarked cars," said Detective Brian Kohlhepp. In the first burglary at a Babcock Boulevard home on Oct. 17, a weapon may have been taken. "There were a number of firearms in plain sight at the residence of the first burglary that were passed over by the burglar," said Kohlepp. "There is one firearm currently being considered.
