A new North Park Lounge owned by Mark Baranowski will open along East Carson Street this summer.
North Park Lounge is coming to Pittsburgh's Southside. Owner Mark Baranowski, a Pine Township resident, said he recently purchased the old Town Tavern at 2009 East Carson Street. He plans to renovate it with a restaurant on the first floor and an entertainment on the second floor. The North Park Lounge Southside location is scheduled to be open by the end of July or early August. In addition to the original North Park Lounge at 8701 Babcock Boulevard in McCandless, Baranowski also owns the North Park Lounge and Bamboo bar in Cranberry, the Cabana Bar in Wexford, and Bonnie & Clyde’s in the Pine Tree Shoppes in Wexford. Look for road-paving equipment this week on Valencia Road in Richland Township. Weather permitting, PennDOT plans to pave Valencia from Babcock Boulevard to Bakerstown Road, according to an announcement from PennDOT District 11. Lane closures will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. In addition, crews will be sealing cracks on Bakerstown Road from Route 8 to Route 19 in Pine and Richland Townships during the week. Motorists are advised to use caution, slow down and anticipate changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area. Well, the work is almost done. Traffic on Babcock Boulevard traveling under the McKnight Road overpass will have to alternate at the discretion of the flag crew between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily as work continues on the overhead bridge, according to PennDOT. The restrictions are expected to last through Dec. 15. Restrictions on traffic traveling on the bridge were lifted last month, just before the holiday shopping season started, although off-peak short-term traffic delays might still occur from Nelson Run Road to Perrymont Road through early 2012. The $8.8 million, 4.6-mile project has been ongoing since June. The prime contractor is Lindy Paving Inc. of New Castle.

Long-term traffic restrictions in place on McKnight Road at the bridge over Babcock Boulevard will end late tonight, according to PennDOT District 11. The lane closures have been in place since June. Off-peak, short-term restrictions will continue as needed on McKnight Road from Nelson Run Road to Perrymont Road through early 2012. No restrictions will occur that would affect holiday shopping traffic, according to PennDOT. A brief traffic stoppage of 15 minutes or less is likely between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday on McKnight Road at the bridge over Babcock Boulevard, according to PennDOT. Message boards will be used to alert motorists once a firm time is established for the stoppage. Crews will be jacking the bridge, which cannot occur under traffic, for bearing replacements. Volkswagen Jetta Making Left Turn on Route 19 Collides with Nissan On Aug. 11, a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta turning left into Billco Motors on Route 19 in Pine Township collided with another vehicle, according to a Northern Regional Police Department report. Allison Quigley, 21, of Gibsonia told police she was in the left southbound lane around 6:30 p.m. when a vehicle stopped in the right northbound lane to let her make the turn, police said. As she was turning left, Quigley saw a 2010 Nissan Sentra coming north in the left lane, said police. “[Quigley] said she hesitated and then began to make the turn. She realized she would not make it and tried to turn back to the right out of [the Nissan’s] way, but could not do so in time,” said police. …

Lane Change on Route 19 Ends in Collision Two vehicles collided Aug. 2 when one attempted to change lanes on Route 19 / Perry Highway near Midas Muffler in Pine Township, Northern Regional Police Department reported. Paul Roden, 31, of Pittsburgh told police he did not see another vehicle when he changed from the right to left lane because of a blind spot in his 2007 Honda Odyssey, the police report states. Roden collided with a 2011 Honda Pilot that Timothy McElroy, 49, of Gibsonia was driving, police said. The Honda was towed. Wondering what that construction project on Babcock Boulevard in North Park is all about? A public meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17, to discuss the construction, which is part of the North Park Trails Project. The meeting will be held at the Allegheny County Police and Fire Academy, 700 West Ridge Drive, in North Park. The work is taking place between Wildwood Road and Pearce Mill Road. When completed, a through lane will be eliminated and replaced with a new bike lane, wider sidewalks and a grass island to improve the separation of pedestrians and motor vehicles.
