Got medication left over from a forgotten ailment? Dispose of them safely during National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
Police will collect unused, unwanted prescription drugs from people who no longer want or need them as part of the National Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 27. Several drop off points will be located around the Pine-Richland community. Medications may be dropped off between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Northland Public Library, located at 300 Cumberland Road in McCandless. Police will arrange for safe disposal of the unwanted drugs. Allegheny County Police also will collect unwanted, unused and expired prescription drugs and other medications from 10 to 2 p.m. at the North Park County Police Station, located at 700 West Ridge Drive. A Franklin Park couple accused of physically abusing and starving two children they adopted from Ethiopia in March are asking again to be reunited with their biological children, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. Douglas Barbour, 33, and his wife, Kristen Barbour, 30, of Cole Road, Wexford, are charged with two counts each of endangering the welfare of children and one count each of aggravated assault. Douglas Barbour, a Pennsylvania Deputy Attorney General, is also charged with simple assault, court documents show. Levi Staver is charged with criminal homicide.
The preliminary hearing for Levi Daniel Staver, who is charged with stabbing his grandmother to death at their Richland Township home, has been postponed. Originally scheduled for Friday, the hearing has been postponed until June 7 before Judge Donna Jo McDaniel, according to court documents. Staver, 26, is in the Allegheny County Jail; his bail request was denied. Staver stabbed his grandmother in the back Tuesday morning as she and his grandfather were sitting at the kitchen table eating breakfast, Northern Regional Police Chief T. Robert Amman said. The 26-year-old Richland man charged with killing his grandmother told police he was sitting at the computer in his bedroom when the archangel directed him to “kill the witch”, according to a criminal complaint. Levi Daniel Staver is charged with criminal homicide for Tuesday’s stabbing death of his grandmother, Constance Johnston, at their Richland Township home. More than a month after a 17-year-old girl was reportedly assaulted while jogging in North Park, Allegheny County police say they can't prove, at least not yet, that a crime was ever committed. Allegheny County and Etna police are seeking information and help in locating Joann Angel, 51, who has been missing for days. Angel is white, has blonde hair, is 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighs about 115 pounds, and has a thin build. Police said she was last seen in Etna on Dec. 17, although she may have been in North Huntingdon on Wednesday. Angel may be driving a late-model dark-blue Chrysler Sebring convertible with a black convertible top and bearing Pennsylvania license HMW-8034.
