Giving Babies a Healthy Start at Pittsburgh's 'March for Babies'

Patch gives back at the March of Dimes event in Pittsburgh.

Under clear, sunny skies, thousands of people took to the streets of Pittsburgh Sunday to join the March of Dimes' "March For Babies."

The 3.5-mile walk kicked off on Art Rooney Avenue, coursing into PNC Park and across the 16th Street Bridge to Penn Avenue before finishing across the Clemente Bridge in front of PNC Park.

The March of Dimes aims to give babies a healthy start by raising money through the march to support research and programs that aid healthy, full-term pregnancies, according to the website

Participants converged on the North Shore from all over the area, including , Ross, Moon and Cranberry, to support the cause.

Patch was there to hand out bottled water to walkers and greet families and children in a royal way. Festivities included food, music and kids activities.
