News Nearby: Ross Police Offer Free Self-Defense Class in Wake of Two Attacks

The class will be held Saturday at the Ross Township Community Center. It is not limited in size, and pre-registration is not required.

The  will host a self-defense class at 2 p.m. Saturday at the gymnasium at the 

The S.A.F.E. Program will be taught by Hank Hanasik of Team A.M.S. (Academy of Martial Science) in Emsworth.

Self-defense techniques, including how to use nontraditional weapons such as keys, hats, combs, shopping carts and car doors, will be taught.

Other instructional topics will include environmental awareness (how to recognize dangerous situations), personal awareness (how to realize your limitations and compensate for them), and law and society (laws regarding use of force).

The class is expected to run two to three hours. Pre-registration is not required, nor are there special dress code suggestions, other than to wear tennis shoes.

Hanasik said he encourages those interested to come as they are. 

Class size is not limited at this time, Hanasik said. 

Hanasik volunteered to teach the class in response to two recent attacks on Ross Township women.
