Local scouts participate in volunteer activities to earn 'Patch.'
Several Girl Scouts from Troop 51027 helped to brighten the lives of residents St. Barnabas Nursing Home recently.
The scouts repainted railings, blooming flower beds, refurbished a wishing well and elevated flower beds and restored a garden, according to a statement issued by St. Barnabas. For their efforts, the scouts earned a patch through the St. Barnabas Patch Program.

Since St. Barnabas created the Patch Program in 1998, over 100 local Boy and Girl Scout troops have participated in earning patches for their volunteer work. To earn a patch, scouts participate in three volunteer activities between October and May at the St. Barnabas’ skilled nursing and living assistance faculties in Gibsonia and Valencia.
The four girls from Girl Scout Troop 51027 of Wexford that worked on the project were Laura Cottington, Rose Dixon, Sydney Owens and Jacquelyn Paguta. The girls held a ribbon cutting ceremony for residents at the renovated pavilion at the St. Barnabas Nursing Home located on Meridian Road in Richland Township.

Troop leader, Cindy Dixon, said, “Our troop had decided to refurbish the St. Barnabas Nursing Home outdoor pavilion and surrounding grounds to create a space for residents to gather for social events with friends and family. For several years, dating back to being Girl Scout Brownies in the first grade, our troop has contributed many activities to the St. Barnabas Nursing Home.”
