Air Quality Action Day Issued for First Day of Summer

The longest day of the year is on Friday, June 21.

The first day of summer is Friday, June 21, and it's sure going to feel like it.

Because it's the longest day of the year, and the fact that there will be relatively cloud-free skies and highs in the mid 80s, the Department of Environmental Protection has forecast an orange air quality action day for Pine and Richland.

On air quality action days, young children, the elderly and those with respiratory problems, such as asthma, emphysema and bronchitis, are especially vulnerable to the effects of air pollution and should limit outdoor activities.

The summer-like weather will continue through the weekend. The National Weather Service in Moon predicts a high near 85 on Saturday and 87 on Sunday.
