"Being selected to be a part of this team is a dream come true for a lot of these athletes," Coach T.J. Barry said. "It's a great experience and a stepping stone that Olympians such as Michael Phelps once competed in. Our swimmers will represent Pine-Richland proudly."

"The team is headed to Richmond, VA, to face the best of the best from the eastern United States," Barry said.

The all-star team heads to the Collegiate School Aquatics Center in Richmond on Tuesday to complete in the 2012 Eastern Zone Age-Group Championship, a four-day swimming championship that pits the country's future Olympians against each other, according to Barry.

The chosen athletes will represent Allegheny Mountain Swimming and face off against other such athletes from the eastern United States.

The team consists of eight coaches and 66 local athletes, ranging in age from 9 to 18 years old, who come from as far away as Slippery Rock and Wheeling, WV.

Pine-Richland Aquatic's 10 selections represent the the largest number of athletes selected from any club in the area, Barry said.
