Pine-Richland Coach to Represent USA at 2013 World University Games, Needs Help Getting There

Donations are being accepted to send Zach Petronic to Russia for the games.

Last year, Florin Curuea, head coach of the Pine-Richland Crew team, rowed for the Romanian team in the 2012 Olympics in London. 

Now, another Pine-Richland crew member is making waves.

Assistant Coach Zach Petronic has qualified for the U.S. Rowing team entry at the 2013 World University Games.

This event is the second largest multi-sport competition in the world. It is being held in Kazan, Russia July 6-8.

Since he began coaching at Pine-Richland in early 2012, Petronic has led his boys JV and Varsity boats to qualify for the Scholastic Rowing National Championship for two consecutive years.

A Wexford native and North Allegheny High School graduate, Petronic currently is a student at the University of Pittsburgh.

His trip to Russia will be entirely self-funded—and it's not cheap. Expenses are expected to exceed $4,500.

With that in mind, Pine-Richland Crew is rowing to the rescue. The team is accepting donations for Petronic at:

Pine-Richland Crew was established in 2002 and was recognized by the school district as a club team in 2007. 

The World University Games, also known as ‘Universiade’ is an international multi-sports event for university athletes which is organized by the International University Sports Federation.
