Not many female soccer stars come out of the Pittsburgh area like they do from New Jersey, New York and California.
That's the observation from the area's biggest soccer star,
She is holding a soccer camp for girls, ages 11 to 18, from July 6 to 8 at Dick's Sportsplex at Graham Park, 260 Graham Park Drive in Cranberry Township.
"I want to bring a high-level environment to Pittsburgh," Klingenberg said.
She is bringing in pro goalie Ashlyn Harris; strength and conditioning coach Erin Mikula; and sports psychology Dr. Tiffany R. Jones to run sessions at the camp.
"The sessions created specifically for the MK Soccer Camp are geared toward the physical, technical, tactical, psychological, emotional and social development of the individual female player," according to the camp's promotional material
"I've been thinking about this for a while," Klingenberg, a Pine-Richland graduate, said. When she talked to kids and coaches in the area, she said, they were onboard with it immediately.
The camp starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 6, with a panel discussion for all ages. Topics covered during the weekend include striking, leadership and nutrition.
The cost is $250 and the registration deadline is June 25 at www.mksoccercamp.com
