Retired PRMS Principal Scores Big in Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

Kathy Harrington's Bearded Collie receives Best of Breed distinction.

If you watched the prestigious Westminster Kennel Dog Show televised Monday night from New York, you saw a winning Bearded Collie with a Pine-Richland connection.

GCH Dunhill Celebration—a Best of Breed winner—was bred by Pine-Richland Middle School's retired principal, Dr. Kathy Harrington; her husband Ray; and Carolyn O'Neil.

The Bearded Collie is in the herding group; GCH Dunhill Celebration did not place in the Best of Group competition.

The Best of Show distinction will be awarded Tuesday. The show will be televised at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on USA Network.

Harrington was well known for bringing her collies to school with her, to the delight of the students. She also got the students involved in supporting Animal Friends, a no-kill shelter.

The Harringtons, who live in Peters Township, started breeding Bearded Collies about 25 years ago, according to their website.

Yes and from what I heard they pooped in the building and she took them into the cafeteria. Isn't that a health code violation??

We have received many. many, wonderful messages, letters, cards, texts, and emails of congratulations from the staff, students and parents of PR. I feel so fortunate to have been able to share my dogs with all of you as they participated in school activities such as reading to elementary kids, raising money and volunteering at local animal shelters, and visiting nursing homes, among many others. It is unfortunate that some people turn positives into negatives. Now as a University Professor and Supervisor for teachers and mentor to Principals I encourage my students to make connections with students and model paying it forward ! One of the reasons my dogs are successful show and therapy dogs is because they were able to visit school and experience the love and care of the great people at PRMS ! One of my puppies may be trained as a Hospice Therapy dog to bring comfort to families there. I am so proud and I will always be PR PROUD !! DRH
