Report: Pine-Richland Offensive Lineman Details Why He Chose Cal U

Patrick Kline, who signed a letter of intent to play football for the Vulcans in February, also is a member of Wrestling Buddies program recently featured in People magazine.

Pine-Richland Patrick Kline will soon be trading in his horns for a blacksmith’s hammer.

The Rams standout senior offensive lineman in February signed on to play football in the fall at California University of Pennsylvania.

Although offered football scholarships to several other schools, the Vulcans felt like the best fit for him, Kline recently told the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.

“I saw the previous success, and once I met with the coaches, I knew it was the school for me,” he said. “I will major in business or biology and minor in a foreign language.”

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 270 pounds, Kline earned an All-Section honorable mention his junior year as a center, this despite only playing three games there at the end of the season after moving from a different position to help the team fill a need, the Trib reports.

Kline also is a member of the Pine-Richland wrestling team and participates in the Wrestling Buddies program recently featured in People magazine.

The popular program pairs special needs students with non-special needs students. As part of the “peer buddies” program, which was founded by teacher and wrestling coach Ben Rings, mainstream kids mentor those with special needs.

Several of the students on the Rams wrestling team also are autistic.

Kline told the Trib he enjoys working with special needs children as part of the Wrestling Buddies program.

“That is one of the greatest things in the world, it is so much fun to see the kids go out and sweat a little,” he said. “It is one of my favorite things. We take the kids and help them warm up and then spar with them. Nothing serious, just enough to get them active.”
