PR Middle School Students Earn Wordsmith Competition Awards

The event was coordinated through the Northern Area Gifted Consortium.

seventh-grade GATE students earned top awards in the Northern Area Gifted Consortium Wordsmith Competition.

Seventh-graders Rebecca Flieder, Amanda Labuda, Kendall Pomerleau and Trevor Russell took first place in the Seventh Grade Wordsmith Team Competition. 

In the individual scoring competition, Flieder took first place.

The program took place Friday at the North Allegheny Baierl Center and was hosted by Marshall Middle School GOAL Teacher Dana Boyd.  The event was coordinated through the Northern Area Gifted Consortium.

PRMS GATE Teacher Kathy Deal said the awards were garnered through a competition setting that involved students participating in team and individual activities. Students participated in vocabulary challenges through think links, scrabble, boggle, etc.

Participating schools included North Allegheny (Carson, Ingomar & Marshall middle schools), Fox Chapel Dorseyville Middle School, Moon Area Middle School, Avonworth MIddle School and Pine-Richland Middle School.  Each school brought multiple teams.
