Pine-Richland Superintendent Search: President Says Board Says Candidates Are Being Examined ‘Closely’

In a letter to Pine-Richland parents and residents, school board President Peter Lyons said officials have concluded their initial interviews of potential candidates to replace superintendent Dr. Mary Bucci.

They are now examining a number of candidates more closely, Lyons said.

“This will include additional interaction with the board and a thorough examination of candidate backgrounds, as we assess the leadership qualities, experiences and abilities of each candidate,” Lyons wrote in the letter, which was posted on the district's website.

The board began seeking a new superintendent after Bucci resigned in December. Prior to that, district officials had voted 5-3 not to renew Bucci's contract when it expired this year.

The district has since hired the Pennsylvania School Boards Association as a consultant to handle the superintendent search and vet the applications. A first round of candidate interviews for the position took place in February.

When selecting a new superintendent, Peters said officials would draw on information gathered from community surveys and focus groups.

“We remain focused on the district's vision of creating a community where learning is challenging, people are inspiring, and students are enriched by their experience,” he said.

According to a timeline published on the district's website, officials hope to hire a new superintendent by April.

“This is truly an exciting opportunity for the district, and a responsibility the board takes very seriously,” Lyons said. “We hope to provide the next update very soon.” 

For now, Dr. David Foley is serving as the district's acting superintendent. Foley, who has been the assistant superintendent since 2009, has said he is not interested in the superintendent's job.
