Pine-Richland Middle School Named ‘School to Watch’—Again!

This is the third time the school has been recognized for the national honor.

Pine-Richland Middle School is in the national spotlight for education—again.

The National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform's “Schools to Watch’ team has re-designated the school as an exemplary middle school in the Pennsylvania Don Eichhorn 2013 program.

This is the second time the team has re-designated PRMS as an outstanding middle school. The school earned national recognition by being designated a “School to Watch” originally in 2007. It was re-designated in 2010 and now again in 2013.

In addition, PRMS earned the Don Eichorn Award for Outstanding Middle School in 2004.

“We are truly proud to earn a third honor in the Don Eicchorn ‘Schools to Watch’ Awards program,” middle school principal David Kristofic said. “Our students, staff and parents make this school the place to be.”

Kristofic also extended his thanks to assistant principal Rebecca Stephan, secretary Lynn Ross and the staff members who participated in the writing process for the re-designation.

Launched in 1999, Schools to Watch began as a national program to identify middle-grades schools across the country that were meeting or exceeding 37 criteria developed by the National Forum.

Each school selected for the “Schools to Watch” honor is recognized for academic excellence, responsiveness to the needs and interests of young adolescents and commitment to helping all students achieve at high levels.

The schools also are honored for having a strong leadership team, teachers who work together to improve curriculum and instruction, and a commitment to assessment and accountability for continuous improvement, a statement from Pine-Richland said.

“We congratulate these schools for being places that do great things for all of their students,” said Dr. John Harrison, past president of the National Forum. “These schools demonstrate that high-performing middle grades schools are places that focus on academic growth and achievement.”

Pine-Richland Middle School will celebrate the achievement on Tuesday, April 30 in the Pine-Richland High School Stadium Spirit Room.
