Pick Up a Book, Pass It Around for Read Across America Day

Celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday today by joining book lovers and your local school or library for Read Across America day.

plans a Read Across America Read Aloud from noon to 1 p.m. and invites the public to "share the gift of words" by reciting poetry or reading a favorite passage from a book. The library is at 4015 Dickey Road in Gibsonia/Richland Township.

On Thursday, the library scheduled a drop-in program for children in which they enjoyed a performance of  The Lorax, other Dr. Seuss favorites and a craft. 

In Pine-Richland public schools, students are reading The Lorax and other stories and dressing up as their favorite fictional book characters.

students are celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday with "It's Crazy Hat & Sock Day." 

This year, the National Education Association, a group of more than 3.2 million educators who work to improve public schools, and several literacy and youth groups are calling on book lovers across the nation to take up The Lorax, the popular Dr. Seuss children's book published in 1971 about the lovable creature who fights to save the environment.
