Photo Album: Pine-Richland Girls Lose to Seneca Valley in Soccer

Seneca Valley girls soccer team shuts out the Rams 2-0.

Call it the battle of the AAA girls soccer teams.

In the end, the Raiders defeated the No. 1-ranked  Lady Rams, 2-0.

Both teams had strong shots on goal supported by skillful play in the midfield during the first half. The defense on both sides fought hard to keep the ball out of the net.

Raider goalkeeper Jess Neil, a freshman, and the Rams' junior keeper Haley Wessel were challenged with multiple shots on goal. 

The first score came from a direct kick by Seneca Valley defender Melissa Lynskey that was deflected by Wessel. A skirmish in front of the net resulted in a Raider goal with 23:37 left on the clock. With 5:12 remaining in the half, SV's Rachel Leake scored on a cross by senior midfielder Sarah Stevens.

The score at the end of the first half was 2-0. The second half was a back-and-forth battle as both coaches made adjustments to their lines. The tension grew as the clock wound down, but there was no further scoring in the second half.
