Lyons Elected President of Pine-Richland School Board; Banyas to Serve as VP

Pine-Richland School Board elected Peter Lyons as its new president Monday night and Dr. Jeffrey Banyas was re-elected vice president.

The votes took place at the board's annual reorganization meeting.

Lyons won after two ballots. Banyas and Director Dennis Sundo ran against him.

Lyons replaces Stephen Hawbaker, who has served as president or vice president for the past seven years.

Banyas won the vice-presidential vote 6-3 over Director Laura Ohlund. He served as vice president in 2012 also.

Hawbaker agreed to serve a two-year term on the Northern Area Special Purpose Schools joint committee, which oversees A.W. Beattie Career Center. 

Therese Dawson will serve as the legislative representative on the Pennsylvania School Board Association and Marc Casciani will serve on the Pine Township Parks and Recreation Board.

The firm of Goehring, Rutter and Boehm was appointed as the school board's solicitor, but the time was limited to Jan. 1 to March 31, 2013, to give the board time to look into potential other options.

The board's meeting schedule was set for 2013. Meetings are held in the DeWitt Blank Conference Room, located at 702 Warrendale Road, Gibsonia, at 7:30 p.m.
