Last Chance: Talking About the PR Schools Budget

The Pine-Richland School Board's finance committee meets this week.

The Pine-Richland School Board is in the process of adopting a budget for the 2012-2013 school year. The total budget is about $65 million, but a $2 million gap exists between revenue and expenses.

Although it is a committee meeting, the entire school board usually attends.

Adoption of a final budget is set for June 25.

People wishing to comment Wednesday have two opportunities—at the beginning of the meeting and the end. In between is reserved for the committee's discussion. The entire meeting is open to the public.

Finance committee members are Treasurer Dennis Sundo, chairman; Therese Dawson, President Stephen Hawbaker and Peter Lyons. 

The school board will discuss the budget at several meetings in May and June.

At all school board and committee meetings, the public is invited to address the board at the beginning and end of the meetings. Speakers are asked to limit their comments to three minutes.

All meetings are held at the district's administrative office building. Here is a timeline:

May 16, 6 p.m.—Budget discussions at finance committee meeting. 

May 21, 7:30 p.m.—Adoption of the proposed final budget at the school board's regular meeting.

May 29, 6 p.m.—Budget discussions at finance committee meeting.

June 5—Deadline to post the proposed final budget for public review.

June 11, 7:30 p.m.—School board's planning meeting.  

June 25, 7:30 p.m.—Adoption of tax rates and the final budget at the school board's regular meeting.
