Christian Preschool Celebrates Special Week with Activities for Students

Bakerstown Presbyterian Children's Center observes the Week of the Young Child.

Preschoolers donned crazy hats, built dinosaurs, listened to stories and learned songs when they celebrated the Week of the Young Child recently at Bakerstown Presbyterian Children's Center.

Immediately inside the front door of the Christian preschool is a Week of the Young Child bulletin board filled with construction-paper hearts on which parents wrote messages to their children telling them why they are special.

"Gavin R. is special because he gives the best 'Hulk Hugs,'" one heart proclaims.

At the beginning of the week, the children learned to identify animal sounds when Carnegie Science Center presented its "Big Sound, Little Sound" show. On another day, helped the 5-year-olds build dinosaurs and castles.

Learning songs, listening to stories, and eating homemade smiley cookies also were part of the week's fun.

Jill Sweet, owner of PineTree Performing Arts Center in Valencia, taught the children a "Simon Says" kind of game with a biblical twist. "Moses said" and "Pharaoh said" to take big steps, little steps, run and jump to get across a large open room in the school's basement.

A poster of painted handprints adorns a wall with a Psalm 103:5 quote above it: "He fills my life with good things."

"We are a Christian preschool so we always put Scripture verse above what we hang up," Willard said.

After all, the preschool's theme is "Learning and Growing with God."
