The Upper St. Clair Republican will face state Rep. Eugene DePasquale in the November general election.

defeated Frank Pinto in the Republican nomination for Pennsylvania auditor general.

"The voters declared today that Pennsylvania deserves an auditor for auditor general," Maher said during his victory speech at the in Bethel Park.

Maher will face state Rep. Eugene DePasquale of York County in the November general election.

DePasquale was unopposed for the Democratic nomination. He grew up in Pittsburgh and is a Central Catholic High School graduate.

"Remember this is an office which has only been won one time in 50 years by a Republican," Maher said. "We need about 1 million Democrats to win (the November general election) and I believe there are 1 million Democrats in the state who understand that they'll be better off if the state has an auditor for auditor general."

Maher, of Upper St. Clair, is a certified public accountant and founder of Pittsburgh accounting firm Maher Duessel.

He said he'll continue to crisscross the state and try to meet as many people as he can as the November election approaches.

Maher is also running unopposed for state representative of the 40th district—an office he has held since 1997. If he wins the auditor general election in November, the 40th district would have to choose a new representative.
