UPDATE ON DELAY: Hallelujah! All Five Lanes to Open in Wexford Flats on Route 19

UPDATE: The opening of all five lanes in the Wexford Flats area of Route 19 has been delayed ... but only by one day.

PennDOT announced the delay because of expected cold temperatures tonight (Monday) that will not allow pavement markings to be placed.

Nearly two years after construction started on the Wexford Flats section of Route 19, the end is in sight.

The newly constructed five-lane configuration of the road also known as Perry Highway will open to traffic on Wednesday (originally it was Tuesday) morning, weather permitting, PennDOT District 11 announced.

Work to remove long-term traffic restrictions and apply final lane and pavement markings will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday (originally it was Monday, Nov. 5). Lane closures and delays should be expected.

This work will continue overnight through about 7 a.m. on Tuesday, when all five lanes of the newly reconstructed roadway will open to traffic in most areas of the 2.33 mile-project that spans Pine and McCandless townships.

A northbound lane closure will remain in some areas as needed for work on sidewalks, paving and other activities that will continue as weather allows through winter.

Overall work will conclude in spring 2013.

The $18.1 million project widened Route 19 from 42 feet to 63 feet, adding a center turn lane, curbed gutters and sidewalks. New, improved traffic signals were also added at eight intersections in the project area between Longvue Road, near the top of Pine Creek Hill, and North Chapel/Manor Road.

Additional work included bituminous resurfacing, concrete pavement, drainage, signing, a retaining wall and other improvements.

About 28,000 vehicles use this section of Route 19 on an average day.

PennDOT ‘s prime contractor for the project is the Golden Triangle Construction Co. Inc. of Imperial, PA.
