SUV Collides with Monark School Bus Then Hits Another Car

An SUV collided with a Monark school bus with a 7-year-old onboard about 7:40 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Route 8 and Dickey Road in Richland Township and then struck another vehicle, police said.

The collision occurred as the bus made a left turn onto Dickey Road from Route 8 northbound, according to the Northern Regional police report. Neither the bus driver nor student reported injuries.

The driver of a 2011 Dodge Journey—Angela Kort, 18, of Callery—told police the traffic signal turned yellow as she traveled southbound on Route 8 and into the intersection with Dickey, according to the police report.

After colliding with the bus, Kort's SUV struck a 2010 Toyota Venza that 51-year-old Steven Shangold of Gibsonia was driving, the report states. He was stopped at the red traffic signal on Dickey Road, said police.

 transported Shangold to UPMC Passavant, but no further information was available about his condition.

Kort did not report any injuries, according to the police report.

Allison Park resident Charlotte Folan, 74, was driving the bus, which is owned by Monark Student Transportation Corp., police said. She told police that her traffic signal was yellow too, the report stated.

A call to Monark for comment was not returned.

Pine-Richland School District Transporation Coordinator Brian Miller went to the scene and "from his understanding," the bus driver and student were not injured, according to the district's communications director, Rachel Hathhorn.

The child's parent/guardian was called and the bus driver transported the child to the private school he attends, said Hathhorn.

No charges were filed.

 

Jeep Slides Off Icy Road, Hits Tree

A 57-year-old Gibsonia woman traveling on Route 910/Gibsonia Road during a snowstorm Thursday slid off the icy road and hit a tree, police said.

M. K. Hunkele was heading west about 4:45 p.m., between Clendening and Lori roads in Richland Township, when she hit the brakes on her 2004 Jeep Cherokee and slid into the tree, a police report stated.

The Jeep's front bumper and engine area were severely damaged.  towed the vehicle.

 

Two Vehicles Collide at Route 19 and Lake Drive Intersection

A Subaru and Honda collided Jan. 16 at the intersection of Route 19 and Lake Drive in Pine Township, according to police.

Seven Fields resident Patrick McLaughlin, 18, was making a left from southbound Route 19/Perry Highway onto Lake about 8 p.m. when he collided with the Honda, police said.

Gregory Harrold, 48, of Mars was driving northbound on Route 19 in the 2004 Honda Civic.

The Honda and McLaughlin's 2011 Subaru Impreza had heavy front-end damage, and towed them, said police.

McCandless-Franklin Park Ambulance Authority responded, but no one was transported to the hospital. McCandless Police Department also responded.
